Meet two of our new rescues – Greer & Riley. They recently came into our program with injuries which required orthopedic surgery. Both boys had surgery on Tuesday April 15th & came through like troupers! Please read their stories below….

Greer came to us from a shelter in North MS where he had been found in a ditch. Both of his front legs were broken & the shelter did not have the space or money to treat him. Luckily, they contacted WRS & we were able to get Greer to safety. The orthopedic surgeon said that these injuries were 3-4 weeks old… We’ll never know what happened to this boy , nor how he managed to survive for that length of time! All we can say is, we’re glad he did. This is one of the sweetest boys that you’d ever want to meet! He loves sitting in your lap & giving kisses. Greer’s surgeon was able to clean out all the old scar tissue & insert pins to hold his bones in place. He has a splint on one leg and is having to learn how to get up & down with a “peg leg”. Greer will need some physical therapy once his bones have healed, but should be good as new in time.

Riley was left in the parking lot of a veterinarian’s office. They found him sitting on their doorstep when they arrived at the office. They quickly contacted WRS for help & we made arrangements to get this handsome boy. Once Riley got to a foster home & had a chance to run around, we noticed that he had a limp. After a vet visit, we learned that he had a torn ACL in one of his back legs which would require surgery. Riley had his ACL repaired on Tuesday & came through the surgery very well. He should be 100% after several weeks of healing time & some water therapy.
As you can imagine, the vet bills are significant for these 2 orthopedic surgeries. If you would like to contribute, please visit the donations page of our website. We are a 501c-3 non-profit organization & all donations are tax deductible and are greatly appreciated! Thank you for your support!

Foster Homes - WE NEED FOSTER HOMES!!!
Foster homes are a critical part of our success as a rescue group. As a foster home you would provide a loving, stable environment for a rescued dog until he/she is adopted. We are often forced to board some of these dogs due to the lack of foster homes. This is a tremendous financial burden on the rescue, not to mention the stress it causes for the dogs. Please consider taking one of these guys into your home today!   Click here if you would like to foster a Weim.
