Name: Princess2   Age: 3 years   Gender: F

Description:
3/9/11 We adopted Dixie (formerly Princess) in August of 2010. At 3 years old, she is full of energy, has a natural hunting instinct and loves to play outdoors. She has made a wonderful playmate for Annie and Casey. She also loves to snuggle and play with stuffed toys. 9/16/10 Princess is a 3 yr old Weim that was rescued from a shelter. She is very loving and gets along well with other dogs. She loves to play and has good recall. She knows sit and leave it. She is hw neg and up to date on shots. She will be a great companion for someone! Please consider giving Princess a forever home where she will know love and kindness.
Name: Anastasia   Age: 3 -4 years   Gender: F

Description:
3/19/11 Sierra (f/k/a Anastacia) and our foster dog Hogan have definitely fulfilled our lives. There is something different about this breed of dog - seems that our life is no longer fulfilled without weimaraners in it. Sierra and Hogan play together and Hogan is teaching Sierra how to play with the tennis ball because Sierra never knew how to play. They are totally opposite. Sierra is smaller but the alpha. Sierra likes to be in the front seat of the car with the windows shut and Hogan likes to be in the back with his head out the window looking like he is going to take off at any minute. They are opposite in most ways but are attracted to each other. Its adorable to see them play together. I could not ask for a better, more loving group to be involved with than with Weim Rescue of the South. Thank you, especially Tonia Hanson, for all of the love that we have for these two dogs and the love they have for us. 6/1/10 Anastasia is a 3 to 4 year old female who has just entered rescue. Anastasia will have to undergo HW treatment, because she is HW positive. We will add information as we learn more about her. She is being boarded due to a lack of foster homes. If you would like to foster one of these weims, please fill out the online form. It is such a rewarding experience.
Name: JD   Age: 3 - 4 years   Gender: M

Description:
10/8/11 - update from forever home Roxy and Axel (formerly JD) have now been part of our family for a year and both are doing great. Roxy had been abused and was a nervous wreck when we first brought her home. She’s so much more relaxed now, and is genuinely happy. She loved her Axel from the moment they met, but now she actually appreciates her human family. She likes to sing to us with her funny howling voice when we come home. She’s a great athlete and tears around the yard at astounding speed. She’s kind enough to slow down on jogs with Axel and her human “mom.” It truly warms my heart seeing Roxy enjoying a normal life after whatever she went through with the breeder who formerly owned and terrorized her. Axel has also brought joy into our lives. He is the most intelligent dog I’ve ever met. I’m always expecting words to come out of his mouth. He had a tough life before WRS saved him—in fact, we learned through an X-ray had he had been shot at some point in the past. It’s sad to think of a dog with such a keen mind and who is so emotional being trapped in a dismal life. But not anymore! Axel knows he deserves a life filled with stimulating experiences and lots of love…and he gets it! I can’t imagine our lives without Axel and Roxy, and want to thank WRS for bringing us together. 6/1/10 JD has just entered rescue, so we really don't know much about him except that he is HW+. We will add more information as we learn more about him. He is boarded because of a lack of foster homes. Please consider fostering a weim! It is such a rewarding experience. Just fill out the form on the website and we will get in touch with you.
Name: Glavin   Age: approximately 1 year old   Gender: M

Description:
1/31/11 It's been a while since I updated you on how everything is going with Odin (formerly Glavin). He's so, so special! He and Ace get along so well. He became a part of our family last May and it seems like he's been here forever. We love him so much. I could go on and on, but trust me -- he's a great dog and we love him so much. I've attached a couple photos of him and Odin with Ace and my niece -- a very precious picture. 5/1/10 Glavin is a calmer blue male who is GREAT with younger kids and other dogs. If you want a young weim that loves to play with children he is it! He is about 75 pounds and he rides great in the car. He takes treats very nice as well. Glavin does pretty good on a leash but would need a little work. He would be a great addition to any family! 4/15/10 Glavin is just coming into rescue, and we really don't know much about him. He is a beautiful blue male who was found as a stray. He weighs about 76 lbs. and he is HW-. He is a very sweet boy! As soon as we get to know him, we will update his profile. You can tell that he is desperate for attention. If you would be interested in fostering any of our weims, please fill out the adoption form on our website. Fostering is one of the greatest kindnesses that you can perform for one of these neglected babies. 5-1-10 video
Name: Amy(Lexi)   Age: 2 years   Gender: F

Description:
3/1/10 Update from adoptive family We love Lexi (formerly Amy) sooooooo much. Still can't figure out why anyone would give her up. Lexi is so calm and gentle and loves my children almost as much as they love her. We say she was sent to us from heaven from our last Weim, Rhozsha, to heal our hearts. Thank you so much, Weim Rescue, for all you do for these amazing dogs. 6/1/09 Amy is a very sweet girl. We think that she is about 2 years old. Will post more when we know her better.
Name: Monte   Age: 1 year   Gender: M

Description:
5/15 - Update from ADOPTIVE home: Miller Light Scarbrough, formerly known as Monte is the newest member to our family. Miller seems to be doing really well. All the neighbors know him too from his barking. He just recently completed puppy training classes & is really friendly with other dogs. Miller is the most lively, loving, protective dogs and we are very fortunate to have a program that helped us, help Miller! 2/3/10 Hi! Meet Monte. He was found as a stray by a nice couple who kept him until WRS could get him. He is underweight by 10 pounds or more. He is a beautiful blue male weim around a year old. He is HW negative! He would be a great addition for an active family. Please consider adding him to your family.
Name: Miles 2   Age: 5 months   Gender: M

Description:
1/12/10 Here are a couple of pics of Mr. Miles. He came home with us in February 2010, and it's almost 1 year later. He has got to be the happiest dog we have ever owned. He is a true case of "a man's best friend," we are blessed to have met Miles and blessed to have found the Weim Rescue of the South. 1/24/10 Meet Miles! He is an adorable 5 month old weim puppy who was surrendered to the Memphis Animal Shelter. We really don't know much about him right now. He is a typical 5 month old weim. He is VERY sweet and playful and a total love bug. He would be a great addition for someone who wants a weim puppy. We will add more as we get to know him. Right now he is boarded because of a lack of foster homes.
Name: Fulton   Age: 8 months old   Gender: M

Description:
12/11/09 Gator, previously known as Fulton, reports that he is extremely happy in his new home. He was adopted by his foster mom and is doing great. He enjoys running on 10 acres with his pals, Rosie and Smokey. His new family says that he is the sweetest, happy go-lucky dog ever. He jumps on the bed, flops down on top of his new mom, rolls over and gives her kisses. 11/14/09 Fulton is all puppy. I had forgotten how funny they are at that age He is 8 months old and loves to play. He is great with all the dogs even my bossy female. When he's happy his whole body wiggles. He is so smart...figured out how to let himself in a door with a door knob (NOT a handle)! Fulton is up to date on vaccinations, neutered & on HW prevention. Won't you consider adding Fulton to your family???
Name: Tanya   Age: 3-5 years old   Gender: F

Description:
11/01/09 Today I left Riverview Animal Clinic and went for a long ride in the car. It was great to get to be out of the kennel. At the end of the ride, we got out of the car, and there was my friend Haley and her husband. We all went inside and talked for a while. There was a new dog bed, new dog bowls, and I wondered where their dog was. Then the two ladies who brought me got ready to leave. I thought that I had had such a nice visit, so I was ready to get back into their car. But guess what!!! I got to stay with Haley and Douglas! That's my bed and my bowl! (They even bought me a coat!) I'm home - forever! This is what I have been waiting for! 10/12/09 Tanya was dropped off at a shelter at night. She had cuts and scrapes all over her head and face, and had a big cut on her back leg that had to be treated with surgery and a drain. She has not yet been spayed, because of all that she is going through. However, this procedure will be done as soon as she is stronger. She is HW negative. Tanya is a very timid little girl, but that is understandable because of all that she has been through. She wants love so badly, but she is afraid. By the end of our visit, she was relaxing just a little bit, and she wagged her tail. She desperately needs someone who will give her love and affection so that she can become more confident. Tanya needs a foster home. Please consider giving this little girl a place where she can feel safe.
Name: Chianti   Age: approximately 6 years old   Gender: F

Description:
March 7, 2011 Update from forever home - Annie (formerly Chianti) quickly made herself at home with us back in March 2010. She adapted so easily to our family routine and gets along well with our older Lab, Casey. She is calm, gentle, well-mannered, friendly and loves to snuggle. She is a very beautiful and loving girl! January update: Chianti is one of the calmest and most submissave weims i have met in a long time. She will sit when you go to pet her and sometimes will lie down and roll over to have you pet her belly. She is very loving and really enjoys going on walks. She is a petite female and would be great for someone living in an apartment or someone wanting a very calm weimaraner. She gets along great with other dogs. She has great manners and is trained on an underground electric fence. Chianti came to us on 09/09/09 as a stray. She is about 6 yrs. old. She is a very sweet girl, very friendly and happy. She seems to be very calm and well adjusted. When we visited with her, she seemed very loving and desperate for affection. Chianti is being moved to a foster home this week, so we will know more about her after she has settled in.
Name: Jasmine   Age: 2-3 years   Gender: F

Description:
12/05/09 - News from Jasmine's forever home Jasmine is doing fine. She loves to run and play in the yard with the kids. She comes when we call her, sits, lies down and shakes hands. We have a couch that is hers. She's gotten into a few things, but nothing we haven't been able to deal with. But what weim can resist food that is within reach on the counters? Jasmine is a sweetheart, and she is a wonderful addition to our family! 9/11/09- Jasmine has been a wonderful weim to have around. She just loves Matthew our 4yr old son. He hugs, pulls and plays with her and she could careless. Jasmine does like to be with the family but when not around she has done very well. We have been crating her when we leave the home but we have tested her a few times leaving her out and about and she did very well. She knows where her kennel is and does go straight to it when prompted. She is potty trained and has had no accidents in the house. She has been using the dog door to do her business. Jasmine will definately be a great catch for a family looking for a laid back yet playful weim when you get her fired up so to speak. 9/3/09 - Jasmine is sweet petite weimaraner who was picked up as a stray. Jasmine is UTD on shots and HW-. Jasmine is staying with a volunteer for a week so that we can know something about her. She getting along well with all the weims in the home. She is good with kids. She crates very well. She is a cuddle bug, but still learning to trust. She is a wonderful little girl. She is also house trained. If you would like to foster Jasmine or any of the other dogs on our website then please fill out the online foster application.
Name: Hank 2   Age: 2-3 yrs   Gender: M

Description:
1/20/10 Hank has found the perfect forever home! He has adjusted quickly to our home, and he and Oliver get along wonderfully. They both love to "hunt" through the woods surrounding the house. He has gotten used to the automatic doggie door which gives them both free reign to go in and out in the back yard as they please, throughout the day. We are so lucky to have gotten such a good baby boy to become part of our family. Hank is steady at 78-lbs, but he is small in comparison to his 95-lb older brother Oliver. 8/1/2009 Meet Hank. Hank was rescued from a Louisiana shelter but then returned to the shelter when the family found out he was HW+, an expense which the family could not afford. He lived inside with the family which consisted of 3 children, ages 7, 5 and 18 mo. Hank is sociable and gets along well with other dogs. He is crate trained and sleeps through the night in his crate. The previous owner says that he was cat friendly. Hank is UTD and neutered. He currently undergoing HW treatment. Unfortunately, Mr. Hank is being boarded due to lack of foster homes. If you would like to foster Hank or any of our dogs who are currently boarded, please fill out the online FOSTER application. Please consider fostering for WRS, it is one of the most rewarding things you could ever do for these beautiful creatures.
Name: Susie   Age: approximately 3 years old   Gender: F

Description:
summer, 2011 Lucy - formerly Susie When we first discussed fostering that was ALL we were going to do "foster." Of course after Lucy came to stay with us, it wasn't long before we realized she was in her forever home. We fought it for a while, but the more emails we received about potential families for her, the more we realized that no one could take care of our girl the way we could!! :) Lucy has brought so much joy to our house. We had lost our weim Duke a year before and I swore I would never love a four legged family member as much as I loved him....that is until Miss Lucy came along. She has brought so much love and laughter to our family, and we can't thank WRS enough for letting us be foster failures. Please continue the wonderful work y'all do for these beautiful, wonderful animals. I have attached some pictures to show how much love she gets and gives!!! 8/30/09 What a difference a month has made for Miss Susie. She is still a little hesitant but NOTHING like she was. She is in a double run in the hospital wing with a fluffy comforter, a ball and chewie. A volunteer visited Susie and guess what? she actually PLAYED a little bit! When she was called from across the yard, she came running! At the last visit, Susie would cower and freeze if anyone got near her. At this visit, Susie was brave enough to leave the animal hospital Also was able to walk around the school yard down the street today. Previously she wouldn't even walk outside the front door. Truly AMAZING! She walked great on a leash, without pulling at all. Look at the last photo - this shows how much better her coat looks and how confident she is. 8/07/09 Susie is a very petite three year old weim. Her life has not been easy, and she is still a little hesitant about anything new. It takes a while for her to feel comfortable in any new or different situation. A WRS volunteer spent time with her, and by the end of play time, Susie would carefully take a few treats from her hand. She is very hesitant about doing anything. She definitely needs someone to love and care for her. Right now her coat is dull and splotchy, but good nutrition and stability in her life will take care of that. Unfortunately, she is also HW+, so she will have to undergo treatment for that. Susie is currently boarded because we have no available foster homes for her.
Name: Jet   Age: 2-3   Gender: M

Description:
Jet is doing great!! I moved off of the farm and back into my parents house where he gets way too much love =) At first my parents started helping me babysit when needed but as he got used to my work schedule he settled down very quickly! Now we can leave him at home and he is perfectly fine. I think it is a combination of getting used to my schedule and just knowing that i WILL come home.
Name: Riley/Kasper   Age: 14 months   Gender: M

Description:
May 2010 update from ADOPTIVE family: Kasper, formerly known as Riley, has been with us since August 2009. We were fortunate to be able to trace his history to a former breeder in Gadsden, Alabama, who was upset that his original owner had turned him into a shelter but was happy that things had worked out. He provided us with “baby” pictures, his AKC pedigree information and his actual birthdate – July 4, 2008. Yes, Kasper is an Independence Day baby! To say that Kasper has prospered in our home would be an understatement. A bit underweight when we adopted him, those days are long past. Kasper is now a chunky 86 pounds, which is all too obvious when he “flops” on us for snuggling time. He and his step-brother Rego, the Vizsla, love playing with each other, both at home and at the barn, where his human mom rides her horse. We are very happy to have him in our home! 8/11/09 UPDATE FROM FOREVER HOME Riley, now known as Kasper, has been adopted by a wonderful family in the Birmingham area. He has Rego, a Vizla, to play with, and they enjoy each other immensely. On the second day, the dogboys went to the farm where the family's horse lives for running off extra energy. These are pix from today and the aftermath. Hope you enjoy them . Kasper’s a fabulous dog and we couldn’t be happier that we have him now. Thanks so much for all you do for weims in need! 3/23/09 Riley is ten months old. He has a beautiful face, and really is a sweetheart. He didn't chew any toys or crate pads on his journey's with me. He has been on Heartguard continuously, is neutered, and gets along well with other dogs.
Name: Pearl   Age: 1   Gender: F

Description:
UPDATE: 5/23/09: We immediately fell in love with Sophie (formerly Pearl) and within a matter of two weeks we knew that she was at home with us. She has a very sweet and kind disposition. However, we have learned with great amusement that she has a feisty streak. She has made a wonderful playmate for our male Weimi, Bo, and they have adjusted well with each other. She seems to have recovered nicely from heart worms and we will have her re-tested soon. She has gained weight (13 pounds!) and her coat looks healthy and shiny. Her eyes have brightened and the depressed look is long gone! We believe that she was younger than estimated age due to her “puppy behaviors” (chewing the couch (uh oh!) LOL! Although she is a very petite female, she holds her own with our larger male and can outrun him. Sophie and Bo play chase (several times daily) in and outside! At times they have so much fun that they leave us out of the play, which has taken some getting used to. She is a quick learner. She comes when called, sits nicely and stays! She picked up quickly on the outside potty routine! She has learned to fetch. She is also whistle trained and comes immediately when we blow the whistle. She gets her feelings hurt easily and we suspect she has been yelled at and verbally abused in the past, which really saddens us. Therefore, we are very careful in how we correct her. She is slowly learning how to eat from her own bowl. She wants her food AND Bo’s food and likely has lacked for food in the past. This was much worse initially and we believe she is learning that she will never want for food (and treats!) again. In addition to being physically starved, she was love starved... she cannot get enough. She has soaked up every ounce of love we have given her and has had a lot to give us in return. She is particularly fond of dad (alpha dog) and he is definitely fond her! She loves to snuggle and gives very sweet gentle kisses (as compared to Bo who gives BIG WET SLOPPY ones!) 3/12/09-Pearl came from a local Louisiana shelter when her owners abandoned her in a house. She was rescued by animal control when her situation was reported by good samaritans. Ms. Pearl did great riding in the car. She is a very sweet and gentle weimie unlike your typical weimaraner. She gets along well with her dogs. Unfortunately Ms. Pearl is HW+ and will have to undergo HW treatment. She is UTD on shots and is spayed.
Name: Hannah   Age: 9   Gender: F

Description:
5/21/09 Update from forever family - Just thought I would give you a little update on our Miss Hannah! She's doing so well. She seems very happy with us and we just love her more and more every day. She has put on a few more pounds since she has been with us and looks just great. She loves to run (yes, I said run!) around our yard with my daughter's weim, Fritz. When we get home from work, we have to do the "yard dance" ( I am sure our neighbors must think we have lost our ever-loving minds, both of us out in the backyard running and jumping around with Hannah) but she loves it. She just bounces and rolls around the grass, barking at us and chasing us. Fritz and Hannah just love each other. I must say, though, Fritz has been teaching her some bad habits. He taught her how to jump on our bed and that has become her new napping area during the day. We don't mind it at all, but the funny part is, show won't get up there when we are home, even when we invite her. She has been sleeping in her bed beside us at night. That is, until last night! I went to bed a little early and she followed me back to our bedroom (also a first) and when I got into bed, here comes Hannah, snuggling down beside me! We just laughed, and she slept there all night. Even this morning, we were both up and dressed and Hannah was still sprawled in our bed. For the first time in our lives, we left for work with an unmade bed....Hannah was still there! 4/6/09 When we got Hannah from the kennel she was very skinny, only about 52lbs. Kennel life had not been good for her. She was highly stressed and very week. I'm glad to say she is eating well and gaining weight and strength. She is a very elegant lady. At 9 years of age she is not as playful as our younger dogs, but loves to follow the action, I'm sure, dreaming of her youth. In truth, she is a total couch potato. She gets along great with both Arlo, a two year old weim, who is very easy going and Belle, a walker mix, who is sometimes a little bossy. One of her favorite activities is to go on walks at the local park where she gets along with everybody from young children, whose attention she adores, to runners, who she pretty much ignores, to the other dogs at the park, who get her attention, but always calmly and respectfully. The first time there the three mile walk was quite tiring for her. Now, she does the route easily. she does have arthritic hips and has some trouble with the long stairs of our house. This too is improving, although she would do better in a home that is pretty much on one level. In the home Hannah has wonderful manners. After an accident or two in the first couple of days, she has proven herself to be completely house trained. She gives only subtle hints that she wants out, so we just encourage her to go out on a regular basis. This has proven very successful. At night she sleeps in her bed in our bedroom. She sleeps all night only needing to go out the next morning. Hannah never begs for food or tries to raid the trash. We are feeding her three times a day and give here one or two Ensure milk shakes each day in an effort to put on some weight. She also needs fairly long walks for exercise so the added weight becomes muscle. Hannah is a very easy dog. She is beautiful, elegant, and intelligent. She is very deserving of a wonderful, caring home. A home that can give a lot of love. In return you will receive the same. ********** 3/11/09 Hannah is 9-year old female, spayed, and completely up to date with EVERYTHING. She seems to be in good shape, and walks on leash very well, is easy with men, women, and children, and gets along just great with the other dogs in surrounding kennels. Will post pictures and more about Hannah as we get to know her better.
Name: Kaiser   Age: 2-3 yrs   Gender: M

Description:
1/18/10 Update from forever fanily: Kaiser is still the best weim ever! He has fit into our family so well, and we really can't imagine life without him. I think that you can tell from the new photos that he is happy, too! 6/2/09 Kasier is doing great. He is a very happy dog. He loves being with our other dog Teddy, (he's a King Charles Cav.) The difference between when we got Kaiser and today is like Night & Day. He has a great appetite but he's still quite skinny not sure why he's not putting weight faster. He's a little clumsy but loves to run, he has a very funny gait when he runs. He's not afraid of strangers and loves to be petted. I thnk he would be great with children or the elderly. He is HW+ and has had the first half of the treatment and will have the second half tomorrow. Once he is HW free we will still need to neuter him. Update 3/11/09- Kaiser has had some set backs. Kaiser stopped wanting to eat or wanting to get up and move. Kaiser's foster family took him to the vet where he received a short acting cortizone and B-12 injection in the hopes that it would boost his energy. So far it has. Kaiser is slowly improving, you can tell he feels much better, he actually has a little bounce in his step and he is eating much better but, he is still very weak. He does enjoy going outside and loves being next to his foster family. He does have a little cough, but we are unsure right now if it is related to the HW's. We are very upbeat about his progress, we hope that it continues improve and that he starts to put on some weight. Everyone please keep Kaiser in your THOUGHTS and PRAYERS. 2/27/09- Kaiser came from a local Louisiana shelter. He is extremely malnourished and underweight (about 20+ pounds underweight). He has a difficult time just standing and walking. He needs a home that can provide plenty of TLC. He is staying with a local volunteer for a couple of days and is getting along well with all 5 weims in the house. Kaiser is UTD on shots but unfortunately he is HW+ and will have to undergo HW treatment once he is healthy enough to do so. He will also need to be neutered. More information will be coming soon. If you would like to foster Kaiser or any of our dogs who are currently being boarded, please fill out the online FOSTER application. Please consider fostering for WRS, it is one of the most rewarding acts of kindness that you could do for one of these beautiful creatures.
Name: Rambo   Age: 1   Gender: M

Description:
November 2009: Rambo just turned TWO!!! I’ve been waiting for this day for so long. I was told that two years is the magical age in which the spunky puppy will become an adult dog ... perhaps that’s just a rumor. Rambo still has unbelievable energy. He’s curious, demanding and jealous. He’s still absolutely beautiful. But best of all, he is such a sweet angel. Tonight I got home late from work after a very long tiring week, and sat down in pure exhaustion. Rambo stood on his hind legs, wrapped his front paws around my neck and gently licked my face with his ridiculously long tongue. That dog is my therapist, comedian and best friend – he’s irreplaceable.
Name: Bailey (formerly Polly)   Age: 2   Gender: F

Description:
8/19/09 UPDATE FROM FOREVER HOME Bailey(formerly Polly) is doing wonderfully. We are all madly in love with her, including big Boss, who sleeps beside her and won't leave her side at doggy day care. From her photos on the WRS website, we initially expected her to have a mischievous personality. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. She is so sweet-natured and attached to us, and not the least bit of trouble. We can't imagine life without her now. Just yesterday Michael told me "thank you again for finding Bailey." She's in great health, had her microchip implanted and registered, and she's an obedience school graduate. I'm attaching some photos (see how she poses!). Thank you again for taking on their cause and finding loving families for these beautiful dogs (furry children to us). We check the website often and some of the cases are just heartbreaking. We're spreading the word everywhere and to anyone who comments that they'd like to have one. You're doing a very good thing. 12.29.08 Polly is an adorable weim. She looks great now that she has gained a few pounds. Due to her isolated puppyhood, everything is new to her. She is very curious and eager to learn. She has learned to sit for food, lie down for a belly rub, and retrieve toys. She wasn't potty trained when she went to her foster home, but she learned where the back door was in 2 days and will stick her nose to the door knob to signal when she needs to go out. She has had only a few accidents in the house. She willingly gets into her crate and has stayed in her crate for as long as four hours without any problems. She doesn't love her crate and will pitch a small barking fit when you first leave her, but she later settles down and lies calmly and quietly until you return. She is good with other dogs both large and small. She just sniffs and ignores them. She has no interest in playing with Leroy, her foster brother. She would be good as a single dog or companion dog in her new home. She has a bad habit of jumping up for kisses and food, but she is working on learning to sit instead for kisses and food. She would probably be better off with a home without young children because of this. She loves to play with her toys and is very good at playing with her toys only. She walks well on the leash and makes for a good running companion. She is a very special little girl. 12.15.08 Polly has been boarding with us for 2 weeks and has adjusted well to her new environment. She is well mannered and loves the special attention she receives from our kennel staff when she is taken out for play time several times a day. She is a beautiful dog that is learning that not all people are bad like her last "owner". She is crate trained and also is very affectionate. We gave her a new collar with an engraved tag and she pranced around like she was the coolest thing - it was so funny! I don't think she's ever had a family who truly cared for her so a loving forever home is what Polly wants for Christmas! She is currently being treated for an ear infection which should resolve in 1 week and is being boarded due to lack of foster homes. Polly would make a great only dog or a buddy to another dog although, with any dog, a slow introduction is always the best! Please give Polly a chance to show you just how wonderful she is! ********* 12.01.08 Polly was seized from an animal hoarder who was hiding dogs on the back of her property. Polly was kept in a small crate to where she couldn't turn around or lift her head 24/7. She has had puppies in the past and is thin. She is very sweet considering the horrific conditions she was kept in. Polly is super loving. She loves to give kisses. She does get frightened at loud noises and is unsure of things around her. She is quite the Velcro weim! She is about 2 years old and HW neg.
Name: Wynnie   Age: 3   Gender: F

Description:
01/12/09:Wynnie is doing great in her new home. Her mom definitely spoils her, but isn't that what's supposed to happen? She had a great Christmas and visited lots of relatives. Everybody loves her! **Wynnie came to us from a central TN shelter & is a dominant female, so would be best in a home with a submissive male. (She might also be okay as an only). Wynnie rides in a car well & likes to stick her nose out the window and smell the air. Just a happy girl who loves to play fetch and run around the yard. She is a big SNUGGLER and if she had her way, would lay on top of you, not next to you! Wynnie crates well, is up to date on vaccinations, spayed & on Heartworm prevention. Unfortunately, Wynnie is being boarded due to lack of foster homes. If you would like to foster, please fill out the online FOSTER application at www.weimrescue.com.
Name: Ziggy   Age: 5   Gender: M

Description:
5/6/09 I'm sending some photos of Ziggy, or Zig, as we call him. It's nearly impossible to realize that he's only been here 10 days; it's as if he's always been a part of our family. He's been so affectionate, well mannered, happy, playful and agreeable to everything! He's doing great with my other dogs and my son. He's my shadow, which thrills me. No accidents, no destruction, no bad behaviors. I know people tend to shy away from the "older" dogs, but I'd take a five year old dog over a puppy any day! He's been given a very clean bill of health from my vet and we look forward to spending years and years and years as Zig's family. Thanks for all that you did to save this precious weim! 4/3/09 Ziggy has been such a sweetheart to get to know! He now weighs 81 pounds, and looks to be finally at his correct weight. He's a big boy, but so calm and gentle, you don't even notice. He doesn't jump up at all, and there have been no more counter-surfing incidents. He still is the most fabulous dog on a leash, and was great company hanging out with me at a coffee shop. He has this amazing calming presence, and he loves greeting people, and tries to sneakily give kisses. During the day, he's happiest sprawled out on the couch, and outside will beg for you to throw a tennis ball, which he unfailingly returns. He's extremely obedient, and only needs to hear "No" once to stop whatever he's doing. ********** 2/9/09 Ziggy is such a polite, happy dog to have around. He really enjoys his walks. We also went to the dog park this weekend, which he loved. He does fine meeting other dogs, and was very responsive off-leash. He's a great dog who deserves a wonderful family! ********** 1/26/09 Ziggy has gained 4 lbs and is now 67.5 lbs, but still looks very bony. He's great on the leash, stays right next to me, and I'm able to walk him with two of my other dogs all at once without problems. I suspect he wasn't walked much, because he's somewhat intimidated by cars going by and lots of activity. He's house-trained, but had one or two accidents initially. I think he'll be fine alone or with other dogs in the family. ********** 1/19/09 I took Ziggy home from the boarding facility to give him a break from the kennel. He and my other two weims got along great despite being in a small apartment. Ziggy was extremely good in the house, a bit of a couch potato (at one point he made his way onto the back of the couch!) and really loves to sleep in the bed and spoon you! He is a real cuddlebug and is so loving and sweet. He seems to be housetrained and has not had any accidents in the house and is great about going potty as soon as he is taken outside. He is very obedient and listens extremely well to the "come" command and "sit" command. He moves slowly since his legs are long (he looks like a giraffe!) and is so gentle. Again, he is very thin so we are hoping that his new foster home can fatten him up a bit. Because of how thin he is, he also has lost a lot of muscle mass so there are areas (like on his head) where you can see this. It should resolve once he's gained weight. Ziggy is a perfect dog- the kind of special dog you always want around. I can't say enough about this sweet sweet boy - all I can say is that he needs a family who will love him as much as we do! ********* 1/9/09 Today we played fetch with Ziggy and discovered how much he loves the game. He gets really into it - he stares at you with his lips tucked in until you throw it. He even catches toys mid air, brings them back and politely drops it when you ask. He will also let you take things out of his mouth. He is such a funny, sweet dog! ********** 1/07/09 Ziggy has been boarding at our facility for quite some time and we have had the opportunity to get to know him better. Ziggy is a tall, skinny boy that weighs in around 55lbs although we are trying to put weight on him since he should weigh around 75lbs. He is the SWEETEST weim I have yet to meet - he is CALM, doesn't drag you on a leash (walks right next to you) and just loves being close to you. He does not seem clingy but he is very affectionate. He is very obedient when we walk him around the play yard and facility. He follows close behind if he is off the leash and comes when he called. I love taking him out and sitting in the play-yard with him because he'll do his business almost immediately, then come up to you and stick his big nose right near your face like he has to tell you something important. He also has the LONGEST ears I have ever seen on a weim - I call him "curtain ears" (they are absolutely precious and feel like velvet!) and he loves when you pet them. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this big boy. He is gentle, sweet and would make an excellent companion for a family who prefers the calmer weims to the high energy ones. He is one of those dogs that can probably go with any type of family - active or not since he just has an adaptable personality. He is also really good in the tub for his bath - he did not try to jump out, he just stood there and trusted me the whole time. Due to a lack of Foster Homes, Ziggy has been kept in a boarding facility for the past 4 months and is very lonely. If you would be willing to foster Ziggy, please fill out the adoption application and write FOSTER next to your name. ********** 10/7/08
Ziggy is about 5 yrs old. He is currently being boarded at my vet. His owner went through a divorce and had to move into apartment and was unable to keep him. What we know about him from his owner is that he is very people friendly, cat friendly (lived with cat and lizard previously), and good with kids. He is up to date on all shots and neutered. He did have a slight positive heartworm test, so he will have to be treated. He is a very tall boy, but is skinny. So, when we get some weight on him, he will be definitely be a big boy.
Name: Tannan   Age: 2-3   Gender: M

Description:
10/02/09 Tannan settled into our family immediately. He is such a happy and loving guy! He has joined our Siberian Husky, Avery, as my second shadow. They get along as though they grew up together. We love him so much! He has enjoyed meeting Avery's friends and made friends with them instantly. Tannan and Avery play from the moment they wake up in the morning until they go to bed at night, with the exception of their afternoon naps. We took him and Avery to Petco today so they could pick out their own toys. He has been playing with it all afternoon. He and Avery are so good about sharing their things with each other as well. Tannan is so good with our two children, ages 5 and 2. He and my 2 year old will lay on the couch and watch tv. He is so big, it makes her look even smaller. He and my 5 year old play frisbee most afternoons. My son gave him a middle name, Robot. We wanted him to keep his name. Tannan also enjoys watching other Weimaraners on youtube, lol. He is a huge cuddler. He has his head in my lap right now! Tannan also gets along with our cat. He's my big baby! I am so thankful that Abby Odom suggested your rescue to me. Tannan is home with his family because of Abby and Tonia Hanson. Thank you! Sept 17 2008- Tannan was found running loose in Portland Tennessee by another Weimaraner owner who took him in and tried to locate his owner. After a week with no success, she contacted WRS to try and find him a home. He is very happy and loves people. He learns quickly and wants to do what you ask. He is a young male and seemed as though he had never been in a crate or even gone for a car ride. He quickly took to a crate and had no accidents. He wanted desperately to be with the other dogs so he would probably fit in well with a family who have other dogs. He loves toys and runs around with them in his mouth. We dont really know much else about him but he needs a forever home as well as a foster home. as he is now being boarded. Please consider fostering Tannan until his forever home comes to his rescue! Just fill out the online application and you're on your way to having this wonderful boy in your life!
Name: Indy   Age: 2-3   Gender: M

Description:
3/17/09 I just wanted to give you an update on Indy. We just love him so much. He is a part of our family now and it feels like he has always been with us. He is wonderful with my grand daughters, so gentle and loving. He gets very excited in the mornings when I am getting ready for our walk, nudging me and dancing around. He is a wonderful clown making us laugh. We are so thankful to Weimaraner Rescue of the South for allowing to adopt Indy our sweet boy! Thanks ********** 12/28/08 Indy has been in his new foster home for a little over a month now and is doing great. He mostly enjoys relaxing. He did great with our 5 year old nephew who stayed with us over the holidays. He's great with other dogs and walks well on a leash. We crate him while we're out but he has free roam overnight. For the most part he's potty trained although he did have a fascination with the Christmas tree!!! He doesn't get on furniture, loves car rides and is very well behaved. He doesn't jump on people and just loves to be petted and played with. Indy is a wonderful little man!! ********** 10/16/08 Indy is getting much better about his dog social skills as he integrates into my pack. He's now playing happily with all of my dogs and is starting to listen and respond appropriately to the signals the other dogs are giving him. This is all making him a very happy dog and much less clingy to me. He has not had any accidents in the house since he arrived, so I would say he is definitely house-broken. He likes to eat, but is not food-aggressive. So far he hasn't tried to get on any furniture, but I think he will eventually, since all the other dogs do. He definitely likes to play!
10/2/08 Indy is a very sweet boy. He is small dog friendly and gets along well with all other dogs, though he can be a bit pushy -- not mean or aggressive, just insistent about what he wants and he doesn't always listen to the signals the other dogs are putting out about what they want. His dog social skills are not poor, but could stand some refinement. He seems to know basic commands: sit, down. He is at the very end of his heartworm treatment and is now starting to show his playful side with the other dogs. He seems to like toys and frequently grabs a different one to take into his crate on his way in for the day or evening. He is very good about crating and is generally very quiet in the crate, though will vocalize on occasion. So far all of the signs are very positive and he appears to also be completely housebroken. He is a typical velcro Weim and wants affection before everything else. He has a very healthy coat and doesn't seem to have any scars, but he is a little head shy. We're working on handling issues. He does not like to have his nails clipped at all, though I have been able to successfully clip his front nails. Still working on the back ones!
8/3/08 Indy was dropped off at an animal hospital in Birmingham. No one knows anything about his background. He is 2-3 and heartworm positive and is being boarded. He is very thin and everyone that has visited him so far said he has a very sweet nature.
Name: Omar   Age: 1 year   Gender: M

Description:
10/22/08 Bo, formally Omar, is my best buddy. When we brought him home he fit into our family as if he had always been there. He loves to run. I walk in the morning and he runs ahead and then behind always coming back to check on me. I took him to the beach in Florida. He and his new friend, a german short hair, run and run and run. Its beautiful! He bikes with me in a state park, running as fast as he can, but always circling around to check on me. He gets along well with his sisters, mutley rescues too. He has kitty friends too. If a cat hisses and runs, Bo is only too happy to participate in the fun. Yes, he can get in the trash and booboo on the floor. Not a good car rider either, but, he barks just enough to be an excellent watch dog. He has not gotten into the water yet, but as you can see in the picture he enjoys boat riding on Center Hill Lake. Bo sleeps between my husband and me. We each get a soft oversized ear to snuggle! 8/19/08
Omar is looking good, he has had a rough start though. When we got him he was so skinny but smiled all the time. He is such a good natured weim. It has taken him about three weeks but he is putting on the weight. He has filled out wonderfully. Omar is young and still has a little puppy in him. He gets excited when you come home and likes to run and jump, however he might be doing that because of my other three weims. His coat is looking better too. When we got him his coat was clumped and just looked dull, but now it is so soft and smooth. There are still a few spots to go but he is sure one adorable little pup. He is house trained and doesn't get into anything in the house. He is great with other dogs, a cat and us. He has been around kids and seems to just love everyone and all the attention that he gets. Whoever gets Omar will be very lucky, he sure knows how to make you smile.
*******
Aug 2008 update: Omar is a great little weim. He has no problem with other dogs, cats, or kids. He is on the small side and is good inside. He does need some work learning to walk on the leash without pulling. He is a young weim with a high energy level. He plays with the 3 other weims in his foster home well, but really requires a bit more exercise then they do, due to his age. He is crate trained, UTD on vaccinations, on HW prevention & neutered.
********
7/15/08 Omar and I took a good long walk today (45 minutes) and afterwards we worked on a photo shoot! The good news is..............his HW came back negative. Also, with a little patience, I think he will find his manners. He will sit on command and seems to listen rather well for a stray.
Name: Vada   Age: 9 months   Gender: F

Description:
2/18/11 Chanel Brock, formerly known as Vada is such a wonderful addition to our family! We love her! 7-2-08 Well, Vada is amazing. The day we got her she was so happy to run and jump around with my dogs, she had a permanent smile on her face. She is so sweet, soft, and goofy. She absolutely loves my dogs and gets along great with them. She loves to run and play and still has a little puppy in her. Vada does well in the house...she seems to know how to behave. We have decided that VADA means 'beautiful' in the dog language. She is perfectly pretty. We are so happy to have her with us.
************
Meet Vada. Vada is a 9 month old weimaraner puppy who was rescued from yet ANOTHER Louisiana shelter after being relinquished by her owners because they did not have enough room for her. This was only AFTER having her for 2 months. You would think that people COULD evaluate their home situation before they get a puppy...a weim puppy for that matter. Please think about your home situation before you invest time into the life of an innocent creature who cannot control the OUTCOME of their lives. Vada is HW negative. Not sure if she is cat friendly. She did not seem to crate very well on the drive. She is housebroken. She is UTD on vaccinations and is spayed. PLEA FOR HELP read on...Louisiana is overwhelmed with abandoned and displaced weimaraners coming from shelters and we do not have enough volunteers to foster them all. Please consider fostering for WRS. It is one of the most rewarding things you could ever do for these beautiful creatures.
Name: Riley   Age: 6 yrs   Gender: M

Description:
November 2008:It's been a little over a month now and I he's made himself quite at home. He's such a sweetie pie! He loves the yard, his long walks, his toys and most of all the furniture, which is fine with us. He wants to snuggle with you in the bed and hogs most of it when all 3 of us are in there. Since we had this cold snap he wants to curl up in your spot and keep it warm. Yea right! He wants you to go sleep somewhere else. He's been great. We are so thankful we adopted him and are able to give him a good, loving home. He's been good with the cats when they make an appearance as well. Our female cat is still a bit shy but the male cat has been doing really well.******** 04/09/08 Riley is a really sweet dog. He is an older blue Weim who was left in the parking lot of a veterinarian's office. He was obviously someone's pet for most of his life. We didn't know his name, so I settled on Riley. He knows basic commands and gets along well with my other 2 Dalmations, another Weim, and a Chihuahua. He is HW Neg and UTD on shots. He makes no attempt to get on furniture and he's not aggressive/possesive about toys, food, etc.Though I don't have kids, he was previously in a home with small children for an overnight stay and was wonderful and gentle with the kids. This home also had cats and he was generally pretty good with the cats. He asks to go out for bathroom needs and does not seem to chew on anything or counter-surf. I've taken him to the dog park and he loves to wander around and explore every inch of the park, but comes when called.
Name: Jake #4   Age: 2 years old   Gender: MALE

Description:
August 2008: Jake is starting obiedence training in two weeks. We are still walking almost nightly. I also started running with Jake in the mornings. He does my two mile cool down run 3x a week and LOVES it. We kept my son's girlfriend's Great Dane puppy for three weeks and Jake played so well with him. I think he misses Elliot now. Jake is loving life in his new home. *******
May 2008: Jake is doing great. He is fitting into the family routine well. We started leaving him loose in the house during the day (today is day 2 of that) and he was fine yesterday. He and Ben are getting along fine, no more sneering. He is such a lover dog and wants to be petted and snuggled and likes to lick. Still working on leash training, sitting, and drop it. He still wants the cat so we have to watch for Sam cat. He loves to play soccer with my son even more than he likes to fetch, so they play in the yard after school. We also try to walk most evenings. He is a sweet dog. **********April 24, 2008:Jake is doing great. He is calming down and is adjusting well to our routine. He does well in the crate, will go right in, but whines and barks for a minute or two when you leave. I did leave him and his foster brother Ben out in the house alone for an hour the other day and they did fine. He sleeps on a bed in my son's room at night with no problems. He is improving at giving the ball and does not take your hand off when you offer a treat. He will sit and we have been trying to work more on that and keeping him from trying to escape when the door opens. I did take him for a short car ride the other day and he was fine. Hopped in the back. He started to climb over and I told him "no' and he stayed back there. I do have to watch the food on the counter as he will steal it if I am not in the room. He is very affectionate and will bark at you if he wants to be petted and you are not paying enough attention to him.. He does pretty good on walks. He just pulls when we first leave, but is not too bad after a few minutes. I can walk both dogs on regular collars. Just have to watch for cats and tennis balls. He's a sweetie and just needs an active family that will give him the attention and activity that he needs. *****************************************
April 15,2008: He is doing great. We worked with him on the ball throwing (sit, drop) and he gets it, just need more practice. And he was a little more gentle with the treats. Yesterday was pretty calm, no problems. He does want the cat, so we have to be careful when we open the door because he knows the cat is outside. So far, no accidents. He gets the housebreaking idea. He is a sweet boy and very affectionate. ****************************************************

April 2008: Jake was placed into a foster home with another male Weim. He is doing well in his crate at night and will play fetch for hours on end. He is rough when taking treats. He shows affection and doesn't know a stranger. We will post updates soon from his foster home.
*******************************************************************
March 2008: Jake was turned into a Mississippi shelter by his owner due to jumping fences. He was an outside dog so he is not housebroken and does not know the joys of being part of a loving family indoors. Jake is HW negative and UTD on his vaccinations and neutered.

Jake is being boarded due to lack of foster homes. If you would like to foster Jake or any of our dogs who are currently boarded, please fill out the online FOSTER application.

Name: Jake   Age: 2   Gender: M

Description:
October 2008:Abby and Jake continue to enjoy the fullness of being siblings. They are so snuggly with each other -- and us --- in bed. It's been such a great thing for Abby to have a little brother. She's gotten a lot more playful and active. And, it seems that Abby's calm demeanor has rubbed off on Jake, too. They are a hoot to take for walks --- a bit like getting tied up in knots when there are lots of good smells in the air up here on the Mountain. Plus, they have a great large yard in which they are free to roam all day. Happy dogs, indeed. The photo (sister Abby in photo with mom) is from the Blessing of the Animals in Mentone, Alabama where we just recently moved to. ******* May 2008: Update from adoptive home: Things are great with Jake and Abby, no problems what so ever. He is little excitable, but he is two AND for the most part hes just a happy dog. Abby and Jake have done a little of the dominance game, but usually they are quite content together. They roam around in the yard and lounge on the couch like ole pals.
04/03/08 Jake is doing great with us and our dogs. He loves to play fetch and eat his big meals. He is slowly gaining weight and looks great. We plan to take him to the dog park next week.
************************
Feb 2008 Jake came into rescue because his dad was sick with cancer & could no longer care for him. Jake is 2 yrs old, UTD on shots, on HW prevention & will be neutered March 5th.
He is a small male (about 60 lbs) who likes to play fetch & has been good with our pups who are also boarded. Jake needs a foster home. If you would be interested in fostering, please fill out the online FOSTER application. We will post more updates & pictures as we get to know Jake.
Name: Puppies   Age: 16 weeks   Gender: MALE

Description:
Just wanted to send you a quick update on Hasselhoff. He's doing great! Took him to the vet for a checkup and shots this week, and he was entirely too focused on greeting everyone to notice any pokes or prods. He's becoming a pro at the potty training, sits and downs. Still working on getting him to enjoy walks -- he's not a fan of bad weather. ****
We have puppies...both boys & girls! We picked up a female weim (Heidi) from a local shelter & 3 days later she gave birth to these precious pups! These pups were born on Oct 16th & will be ready for adoption after Christmas. We think these may be weim-lab mixes...so can we call them Weimadors??? Whatever you call them, they're cute as can be! They seem to be very friendly & confident as all of them will immediately come to the front of the run to see a visitor. They will start to receive their puppy shots in a few weeks. We need foster homes and/or adoptive homes for these pups. If you are interested in adopting one of these precious babies, please go ahead & fill out your adoption application so we can get started on the approval process: vet check, phone interview, & home visit. If you would be willing to foster, please fill out the online foster application.
Name: Lucas   Age: 5 months   Gender: MALE

Description:
July 2008: He is doing greatand is fantastic with the cats. He has even claimed what used to be my recliner as his own. You would not believe how big he has gotten. At last weigh in, which was about a week ago,he was at 80lbs. Lucas and Max are great buddies and needless to say, he cannot stand to be without Max. He is completely house trained and has been since about January. We still crate him when we are not home, but other than that he is loose all day in the house. The next thing after we get moved and settled in St. Louis will be some obedience classes to work on his manners. He does know how to sit, lay down, and now knows how to fetch his ball and bring it to you. He is still a clumsy boy, but is very sweet as you know. *******
Jan update: Lucas' eye surgery & neuter went well. He is just a wonderful weim & his foster parents have decided they can't part with him.... Congrats to Lucas & his new mom & dad!
*****************
Dec Update: Lucas is a really sweet boy with a great temperament. He & foster brother Max are enjoying playing with balls, chasing each other & wrestling. Lucas is growing quickly & now weighs in at 52 lbs. You can see in the photo that he is almost as tall as Max. Lucas is also doing well with the 3 cats in the household....pretty much ignores them. He crates well as long as Max is closeby & is house trained (just a couple of accidents in the past month). Lucas will be neutered & have his eye surgery in January.
******************
Lucas was brought to rescue by a wonderful volunteer at a rural shelter. He & Lily had been picked up by animal control & were going to be euthanized because they had Parvo. This nice lady took the pups to her vet & paid to have them treated. She was not in a position to keep the pups & contacted WRS. Lucas is a sweet, submissive boy. He is still very thin & will need surgery to correct a problem with his 3rd eyelid at some point.
We are working on getting these pups healthy & vaccinated. They will need foster homes in a couple of weeks. Would you be willing to foster this sweet boy? If so, please complete the online adoption application & write FOSTER by your name.
Name: Casper   Age: 1 year   Gender: MALE

Description:
Note from adoptive home September 2008: About Casper, right from the time we picked Casper up he was always so sweet and gentle. Over time Casper grew to love me (his human mom)more than my husband. He always listens, he loves everyone he meets. I am so glad that we had the chance to give Casper a loving home. There have been so many good times with Casper. ***********

Casper came to us from a Tennessee shelter. He was picked up with 2 other weims. The owners came to claim the other 2, but did not want Casper. He is a small, submissive male who is a little timid. He will certainly come out of his shell after a few weeks in a loving home! Casper is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, & on HW prevention.
He is being boarded due to lack of foster homes.
Name: Perry   Age: approx. 3 to 4 years   Gender: MALE

Description:
February 2008: Rufus (formerly known as Perry) has been with us for about 7 months now, and we are happy to report that he is doing fabulous in his new home! He and his new sister, Maddie, have become the best of friends. They are inseparable! Chloe (the cat), however, keeps her distance, and has made it very clear that she rules-the-roost!

Rufus has such a sweet disposition. He loves to give kisses and is an expert snuggler! Rufus is very laid-back which has been a pleasant adjustment for us. Maddie is a bit excitable and quite spastic at times! Rufus often watches in amazement as she sprints and leaps through the house! Rufus is a very large weim86 lbs to be exact! And, like most weims, he thinks hes a lap dog. Without regard for his size, he flops into the nearest lap he can find. Because hes such a large weim and because hes blue, we often are stopped by neighbors and people at parks commenting on how striking he is and wanting to know what kind of dog he is. Most are surprised to learn that he is the same breed as his 57-lb grey sister! Hes a big hit wherever he goes! Rufus is such a special boy and a beautiful soul. We are very blessed to have him!
June 3, 2007- Perry is a striking larger blue weim (pictures coming soon)! Very little is known about him at this point- as he is new to rescue- but we will keep posting new information as we learn more about him. He is up to date on all of his shots, heartworm negative (thankfully) and neutered. We did learn that he was cat friendly- he showed no interest and we he did look at them he made sure he was *protected* by taking a glance in the cat*s direction from behind me or would peek through my legs! He seemed to be just fine with other dogs. Perry is currently being boarded due to the lack of foster homes- so if you are interested in fostering him or any of our other weims please fill out the online application.
Name: Clovis   Age: approx. 2 years old   Gender: MALE

Description:
September 2007: He is doing great. He has fit right into our family, and has established a routine. He is a big baby, and seems to have a wonderful knack of standing or lying right in front of someone, so that he can get a pat, or some kind of attention. He has completed his obedience class, so that walking is now possible without dislocating my shoulder. He loves to run. His morning routine includes a run with me, and I believe he looks forward to that, because every morning he sticks right beside me while I get ready, and runs to the door ready to go. On the weekends, when I don't run in the morning, we have to go outside and play fetch with the ball. He is a joy to have. No matter how bad the day may go for myself or Beth, when we get home he is always so happy to see us, his playfulness and energy are impossible to ignore, and before long we are laughing at what a goofy, fun dog he is. He is very gentle with the kids. The other night Anna (age 6) was working with him, having him "sit", "shake", "stay', and "come". She had gotten on her jacket and gloves, because when he shakes, his feet and claws are so big they scratch her. But not to be intimidated, she just put on her coat and gloves, and went right on. If you get a chance, feel free to stop by sometime. We are home most evenings. Thanks again for your help in getting this dog. I can't imagine him not being in our family.
June 30 update: Clovis has been with us one week and we have nothing but praise for this sweet boy. He is such a happy and playful weim. We crated him the first two nights without any fuss! Clovis now sleeps in the living room and has not had a single accident or had to be let out during the night. Clovis and Luke(1 yr old weim) are the best of friends and play non-stop... tug, fetch, or wrestle. Clovis loves to chase the ball and always brings it back,Yea! He is a very quiet weim, we are amazed that he has only barked three times in a week! (Once as we were letting him out of crate and the other two times chasing squirrels.) He gets along fine with our three dogs. We took him to a weim rescue event Saturday at Whole Foods in Sandy Springs where two other weims were as well as many visitors. Clovis was a Perfect Gentleman. He is in obedience class and learning quickly... walks very well on a leash and knows sit, down, and come. Like many weims he does like to counter surf, but is improving. Clovis will do great in a home as single pet or with one or more. He loves to be with you like all weims. He has been laying his head in my lap as I typed this update.
**************
June 21- Clovis will finally be going to a foster home this Saturday- so check back for new information as his foster family gets to know him! April 30- Clovis joined us at the play day yesterday and had a blast! We are pretty sure that he did not sit down or take a break the entire time we were there (11 until 3). Clovis had a WONDERFUL time playing catch with balls, kongs and sticks- he would bring them back- but not great yet on dropping it- but was starting to get the idea. Clovis also loves to swim- he would go in after a stick and be back and ready to go again! If you are looking for a very high energy and active weim Clovis fits the bill. Clovis will need a round of obedience to teach him the basics- but he does know to sit for food (typical weim)!!!March 28,2007- Clovis came to us from an Animal Shelter in Alabama where he was picked up running as a stray. He is about 2 years old and seems to be in good health... Up to date on all of his shots, heartworm neagative & neutered. Clovis seems to have a good temperment and did fine when I brought my small children along to meet him. Keep checking back for more info. We will post more as we get to know him better. Clovis is currently being boarded- if you are interested in fostering Clovis or any of our other weims in boarding, please fill out the online application.
Name: Reggie   Age: 3 yrs approx   Gender: MALE

Description:
We adopted Reggie September, 2007. He was underweight, super itchy, shy, and a bit beat up when we received him. Now, he is a playful muscleman. Reggie has fit into our family so well. He has a big weimaraner sister, Emma. Reggie and Emma are constantly running around at the park or playing in the backyard. When in the house, Reggie is usually lounging on the couch. Reggie spent his first Christmas with us in Northeastern Ohio. Reggie was introduced to snow. He was also introduced to Norman, my parents' weimaraner. What a great time. Adopting Reggie has been such a rewarding and loving experience. He is an incredible dog with so much to offer. He expects nothing and appreciates everything. We love him.
Sara and Craig
****************
UPDATE 8/18. We cannot imagine a more well-behaved dog than Reggie (also known as Rex). From the moment he arrived he has been sweet, obedient and playful. Reggie loves his toys and loves to run. He obviously had some training, which we have reinforced, and he knows several commands. One of his favorite things to do is sleep on the foot of the bed, but he is just as comfortable sleeping in a separate room. We have not crated him because he does not bother anything except his toys. He is still rather timid and spooks easily. Reggie is submissive around our other male Weim. He rarely barks and has some scars on his face....but we think that gives him character! ********************************

Reggie is doing well in his foster home & playing well with his weim brother. You can see the 2 boys lying on the sofa together in the new pics. Reggie is a handsome young man & will make a great companion for some lucky family.
***********
June 19, 2007- Reggie finished his heartworm treatment today and was given his first monthly heartworm preventative! He is ready to go to a foster home where he can slowly start building up his activity level. ******
Reggie made the long trip last night from Louisiana to Alabama- he is now closer to more volunteers so we can get to know him better. He will start his heartworm treatment next week. He rode very well in the back of our volunteers SUV and never tried to jump over the seats. He spent the night at her home and is crate trained and housebroken. He seemed afraid of the cat he encountered. Overall, he is a very sweet and well mannered boy. He is still a bit on the thin side- but will be a large and very handsome boy when he gains a bit more weight!
Reggie came to us from a Louisiana shelter. He is a handsome young man with a good disposition. Unfortunately, he tested positive for heartworms, so will have to go thru HW treatment. Reggie is neutered & UTD on shots.
If you would like to foster Reggie, please fill out an online adoption application & write FOSTER by your name. Reggie will have to be confined for 5 weeks after his HW treatment begins.
Name: Arista   Age: 2 yrs approx   Gender: FEMALE

Description:
Update : February 2008 I wanted to let you know how well Molly (formerly Arista) is doing. She has settled into our home nicely. She is an alpha dog so she thinks Hunter (our older weimaraner) acquiesces to her, when in reality, he tolerates her and, being a gentleman, steps aside for her moods ! She sleeps on one end of the sofa (that has been a no-no in our house until she came along, but I have let her have a corner as Hunter has his chair). She also snoozes with me in the bed after Andre (my husband) gets up she is not allowed in the bed when we are both in bed as there is not enough room and Andre put his foot down on that she is very respectful of only being in the bed with me for a snooze. She is overall VERY well behaved we have had to explain to my youngest daughter (age 6) that Molly is a dog and not a doll so she has to respect Molly and not hug on her as Molly sees this as a sign of dominance and is not going to tolerate if from a little kid (Molly has only expressed irritation when she is in her corner on the sofa at all other times she seeks Leila out for tummy rubs). We could not be more pleased with Molly she is WONDERFUL ! Thanks for all you do and helping us become Mollys forever home ! ****Arista came to us from a shelter in the Nashville area. She is a healthy 63 pound female & one of the calmest 2 year olds I have ever been around! Arista knows how to sit and she takes treats very gently. She had no idea how to play with toys, but seemed to enjoy the car ride from the shelter to the vet clinic.
Arista is scheduled to be spayed in late March. She is UTD on shots & on HW prevention. If you would like to foster Arista, please fill out the online adoption application & write FOSTER next to your name.
We will post more info as we get to know Arista better.
Name: Smokey #2   Age: 1 1/2 yrs approx   Gender: MALE

Description:
March 2008: Smokes is the most wonderful dog and I love everyday that I have with him. He has the most unusual gait ever so I call him the Tennessee walking weim. He gets along so well with my other dogs and loves them immensely. He has to share his love with us all. He takes turns sleeping with me, karli, and satine. Thanks for introducing me to such a wonderful organization.
************************************************************
february 2008: Smokey is a wonderful dog and they all get along very well. He even shares the dog bowl with my girls and loves my weim more and more everyday.***May 2007 update: Look how handsome Smokey is now! I would say from the photos that he has certainly made himself at home with his foster family! Smokey has gained some weight & is doing well. He is quite an escape artist, as he will open a gate latch or climb the fence if that does not work....so leaving him in a yard unattended is not going to be an option. ******** March 17 update: Smokey is still working on crate training. We spend about 15 to 30 minutes with him in the crate next to us, 3 to 4 times a day, giving him treats and praise. He took a nap on Saturday, while in the crate...which was promising. He attended his first Baseball tournament. We dressed warm Friday night and I took a sleeping bag and his coat (yes, he has a coat and looks very handsome in it). I was afraid it would be a little too chilly without something on him, since he does not have a lot of body mass. He enjoyed the attention and decided around the 5th inning to curl up in his sleeping bag and snooze. He kept my feet warm and it was so funny when people would come over looking for him and ask where he was. I wouldd open the sleeping bag a little so they could peek in and there he was inside curled up in a little ball. He loves to sleep under the covers. Saturday, back to the ballpark for an afternoon of nice weather. He rides great, has the sweetest personality and is getting along great with our other three. We still supervise his outside play time. While we are out there, he will still try to open the gate. He has adjusted to our routine and is a wonderful house guest. ****************
March 2- Smokey went to his foster home today. He is getting along well with his weim foster brother & sister. Smokey is a submissive, sweet boy who loves to curl up on the sofa! He is a little protective of his food if other dogs are closeby, but this is to be expected with a dog that has obviously had to go without food often. We hope this will resolve itself once he realizes that he will have 2 square meals each day (plus snacks & satin balls!) Please watch for new pics over the next couple of weeks. ********
Name: Jasper (formerly Jarrot)   Age: 12 weeks   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Family 4/07: Jasper (formerly known as Jarrot) came to us at three months of age. He is all personalityand all ears! He settled into our home and family really well. He basically, eats, sleeps, plays, and loves! He has not had any accidents in the house. Friday night, he woke up twice...and last night he did not wake up at all and slept through the whole night....we have been sleeping with him all weekend so I think he is feeling more comfortable. He has met most of our friends...and he is quite the popular little guy on the block! He is eating well and has a huge appetite. He has learned to "sit" before we put the leash on to go out on walks and before he eats. He is really smart and just so loving. I think he is a mama*s boy...he always likes to curl up in my lap and take a nap! Our vet says he is in wonderful shape and growing very quickly. He is completely potty-trained and crate-trained...although he sleeps with us at night...we gave in! He is really connecting with us and follows us everywhere. Jasper is now a healthy, fully vaccinated, growing 60 pound baby. He has got all (but 2) adult teeth and is still ALL ears! We will be scheduling his neutering soon. He is so friendly--loves all dogs, all cats, and all kids. It is amazing what good socializing can do! He loves the water, including swimming in lakes and playing in the bathtub! What a joy he is!*****Jarrot came to us from a Louisiana shelter where he was dumped by the backyard breeder who was not able to sell him before Christmas. Jarrot was born on Sept 28th, 2006. He seems to be a very sweet, smart little boy. He figured out how to open the shower curtain & climbed right in....so sounds like he will be a water lover! Jarrot will be checked out by a vet & get started on HW prevention after Christmas. His adoption fee will be $300 PLUS $100 deposit which is refundable with proof of neuter. Jarrot is temporarily staying with one of our favorite trainers & needs a foster home. If you would be willing to be a foster home, please fill out the online adoption application & write FOSTER next to your name.
Name: Orius   Age: 3-4 years approx   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Home 4/07: It has been a little over two months since we brought Orius into our home. After the initial shock a new dog was to our two female labs, things have been going very well. Everyone knew very little about his past, but Orius settled right in and surprised us all by being a very well behaved and calm weim. He is a handsome fellow and we love him very much. We have went through private training and are now in group sessions with Orius, he is improving every week. He is pretty much a lazy weim, some of his favorite past times are curling up on the couch with his sisters and getting in the middle of our bed. We would like to thank everyone at Weim Rescue for helping us complete our family!*****Update from foster home 1/30/07: Orius is doing well. We gave him a bath last night and he was so funny afterwards... He ran around playing tag with Kelly trying to catch her. We also took him to a dog park on Saturday and he did well. The hair on his back was ruffled for a bit when he first got there, but then started to chase after the dogs running after the tennis ball. (Mind you that he did not care about the ball.) We are working on crating. We have started to feed him in his crate and are trying to get him to sleep in it at night. He still howls a bit right when he is put in. We give him a kong and it seems to help, but once he realizes you are gone, he gets upset. I think he just has not had anyone care for him in so long that he thinks he is going to left again. He does not like to stay outside for very long and whines when we leave him outside while we eat dinner. Its just going to take some time for him to know that no-one is going to abandon him again. He does jump & has some food aggression, but we are working on both! *************
Orius came to us from a central Tennesse shelter. His coat looks a bit rough, so he may not have been allowed inside much, but he will get used to inside life soon enough! One thing that stuck me as very sad is the fact that he has no clue what a toy is. He stepped on a squeeky plush toy by accident & it scared him to death. Poor boy has probably never even seen a toy. Orius is a sweet, laid back guy currently weighing in at only 56 lbs. He needs to gain a few lbs, but will not be a large male. He has already learned to sit for a treat & takes it very gently from your hand. Orius is up to date on vaccinations, on HW prevention & will be neutered Dec 11th. He needs a foster home with a family who will teach him how to play & enjoy life! If you would like to foster Orius, please fill out the online adoption application & write FOSTER next to your name. We will post more info as we get to know this sweet boy....
Name: Adair   Age: 2 yrs approx   Gender: MALE

Description:
March 2008-Just wanted to give y'all and update on Chief (formerly Adaire).
After spending nearly a year in the kennel system Chief has happily adjusted to his new life in Memphis, Tenn. He gets to spend every morning running through the neighborhood and his weekends at the dog park where he gets to romp with all of his friends off leash. He is one of the quietest Weims I have ever encountered until it is time to sing. He loves to howl along with music and ride around in the truck with his head sticking out of the sunroof. After his last Vet visit, we are happy to say that he is as healthy as can be and has reached his target weight of 75 lbs; he would love to be even bigger if he could only get to the dog food when I am at work. Thanks to Weim Rescue of the South for everything they have done. I could not have asked for a more perfect companion. ***********************************************************
June 2007- Adair is still doing well in his foster home- he is now in a set routine and knows how things work in his foster home. The earlier comment about Adair not liking the water...well I guess he just needed some time to get use to it- as you can see from the pictures he is a true water dog! Every day he goes with his foster family to the lake for over a hour- in which he swims and goes in after the ball! It takes some time for our foster families to get to know their weims- but I think they have found something he really likes! ************Adair came to us from a south Mississippi shelter. He is a handsome 70 lb boy & everyone at the kennel is already bragging about what a great personality he has. They tried him in the cat room & he just sniffed...we will have to do a true cat test once he is out of the kennel. He is up to date on vaccinations & is neutered.
Unfortunately, Adair is heartworm positive & will have to go thru HW treatment. He needs a foster home where he can relax & recover. IF you would like to foster Adair, please fill out the online adoption application & write FOSTER next to your name.
We will post more info & new pics soon...
Name: Zeus   Age: 2 years old   Gender: MALE

Description:
UPDATE from forever home 03/08: Zeus has a clean bill of health. He now weighs 67 pounds. He is no longer sway back and his toes are almost straight. His hind end is strong, in fact, his confirmation is quite beautiful. Apart from his longer tail he looks the part of very elegant ancestry.

Zeus is the most loving companion. He truly appreciates his home. On cold days he literally dives under the sheets at such a speed that one can only accept it. He is very sweet with Sigrun, our old lady. Sometimes they even go in his kennel together. Zeus has learned the signs of my leaving in the morning so he is already in the kennel when I am ready to go.

Annika is training Zeus and Sigrun to jump hurdles in the yard. Small treats will work wonders. Even Sigrun at the age of 11 and willingly jumps over sticks pretending she is a horse.

We thank you again for supporting our adoption. We all love Zeus very much and are happy to have him as part of our family.

UPDATE from Forever Home 5/07: Zeus is great. He is healthy, gained weight, runs like a torpedo and generally thinks that life is good. Thank you for letting us have him. He is a pleasure to be with.*****Zeus went on a *mini vacation* over the Thanksgiving Holiday with a volunteer and his female weim. If you are looking for a high energy always on the go weim...then Zeus is the boy for you! He has a high prey drive and was very proud of the bird that he jumped up and caught in flight! He seemed to learn quickly- knows sit and shake- he also seems to understand *no*. He crated well, by the end of the week he would crate with only a verbal command of *crate* and settled down nicely. Zeus will start his heartworm treatment this week- so we are looking for a foster home that would be willing to take him and get him through the treatment. Please consider fostering him or any of the other wonderful weims that are currently being boarded. November 13, 2006- Zeus is a striking young, blue male. A vet clinic in Eastern Alabama contacted WRS after he was left there by his owner. Zeus was a gift from a Grandfather to his Grandson- when the Grandson no longer wanted Zeus he gave the dog back to his Grandfather- an elderly man who could not take care of Zeus properly. He is now up to date on all of his shots and will be neutered this week. Zeus was not given a monthly heartworm prevention- and now is heartworm postive- he will start treatment after the Thanksgiving holiday. Please consider fostering Zeus (or any of the other weims in need of a foster home)- fostering a weim with heartworms takes a little extra effort and close monitoring- but as with any fostering experience....it is well worth your time! We could not be a successful rescue group without all of our wonderful foster families- they have one of the most important jobs!!
Name: Logan   Age: 1 1/2 years   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from new family January 8, 2007: Logan is doing great now. We have gotten over the loose stool spell for a while i think. It turns out the problem was me over feeding this poor dog, haha. I was feeding him 8 cups a food a day. He acted hungry. We are now at 3.75 cups a day. That solved the problem i believe! Logan is 100% a counter surfer! He loves to get everything off the counters, including breakable items, haha. The 1st month with Logan, we lost some precious items that he thought was toys. Oh well, we still love him. Logan does not think that anyone in town is allowed out and about. Everytime we are walking or riding through town, he thinks he has to let out about 100 loud deep barks to tell everyone he is around and they need to go home. Logan was going to be a floor sleeper when we got him, but guess what, the 1st night we found out different. He sleeps in a ball right between my wife and I. He says no romance when it is bedtime, haha. I took Logan to lake 2 days ago and he was scared to death of water, but thought an ant bed would be over enjoyable, so he pawed at it and found out that the water was much better than the ants. He had ants all over him and he went for the water then in much burning. I went in with him to get ants from out between his toes and out of his fur. I worried he may be sick from it, but he did not even swell. Thanks Goodness! Logan is definitely a light in our life after losing our 4 year old weim in August of 2006. He is great!

Oct 30,2006 update: Logan and his foster sister Allie get along pretty well but he definitely LOVES to snuggle, sleep in the bed, stay close to you and I think he would love being an only dogespecially if they have access to a dog park or play dates with other dogs. He does NOT do well in a crate and pretty much demands to sleep in the bed with you.
Logan is quite the sleeper (I have to pry him out of bed to walk in the morning) BUT he does need exercise. We do a couple of long walks each day & that works well. He does well on a pinch collar and we are leaning whoa and to sit and wait before we cross intersections. He definitely need more whoa training! I let him off leash in a large enclosed area several times and his recall was pretty good.
He is a counter surfer and is still puppy chewing but both of those things are getting better. If he gets his exercise, he is calm and easy. He is so sweet and loving you can help but want to love on him!
********************************************
Logan came to us from a Tennessee shelter. He had been turned in because his family did not take the time to do obedience training & could not control him.
Logan is a very sweet, 18-month old male. He is definitely a weim puppy. He is exuberant when I get home and shows it by jumping all over me and gnawing on my armsbut he is quick to calm and loves being loved. Because he is young, he is still chewing on socks, shoes and other available chewables but we are working on what is an appropriate toy (kongs, etc) and what are not (my shoes and slippers). We are also working on his counter surfing but this will definitely be a hard habit to break. Logan would definitely benefit from a round or two of obedience training.
Logan is very happy outside and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He has a very impressive bark but is wagging his tail all the while. Bed time is a bit of an issueLogan will not tolerate a crate at this time. He is happy on the couch or confined in a separate room, but his preference would be to sleep on your bed. His foster sister, Allie, does not tolerate this so Logan finds other places to be comfortable. Logan spent last weekend at home with a pet sitter, but Allie was not home, and she reported that Logan was a different dogcalmer, less anxious about getting attention and even slept beside the bed on a dog bed. I think he may be so starved for attention that he might make a wonderful only dog. He would also be fine with other dogs if he could get his fair share of attention.
He has only been with me and Allie for 2 weeks so further updates will be forthcoming.
UTD on shots, on HW prevention & neutered.

Name: Finn   Age: 5 months approx   Gender: Male

Description:
UPDATE from Forever Home Feb. 07: Just wanted to send you a few pictures of Finn from last night. After Terra left, we just hung out and played ball with him down in the basement. We also took several walks around the yard with him as he sniffed around. We went thru the drive thru at Wendys and Finn rode so perfectly in the back. Once we got home we ate and he laid on the couch and kept one eye on us and one eye closed-HAA! Today he ate his PB and J vitamin sandwiches and was ready to head for Petsmart and another specialty store. He loved playing with all the different toys and looking at the birds. We got him an ID tag, bones, and lots of toys. We came back to the neighborhood and took a walk to show him off to the neighbors. Everyone thought he was beautiful--which he is of course, and so friendly. We came home for just a bit and then off for a walk again around the neighborhood as Blair and her friend rode bikes. He sunned on the deck a while and birdwatched. He is now lying in a chair sleeping with one of his toys. We are hoping he eats tonight now that he is settling in. We are so enjoying him and he has been so good. Thanks for sharing this wonderful fellow with our family. The kids are all so attached and proud of him!*****Jan 2007: Finn has been seeing a wonderful holistic vet for the past 6 weeks & is doing great. He is finally at a healthy weight around 59 lbs & is scheduled to be neutered the 1st week of Feb. Finn gets along great with other dogs & is cat friendly. He is very affectionate with people & loves to cuddle. Crated trained & can be left alone uncrated for short periods. Finn is very high energy & seems to be interested in birds, so he might be a good candidate for field trials/hunt tests. Read more about these types of activities on the Weim Club of America website http://www.weimclubamerica.org/worldweims/hunttest/index.html ********
Dec 2006: Finn is moving to a temporary foster home in the Nashville area so he can see a holistic vet. The vets who have been treating him feel that he may have an immune system deficiency. He feels & looks much better, now weighing in a 44 lbs. but his chest x-rays still indicate that he has pneumonia. We feel a holistic approach may be the best route for this little guy. He has his first appointment on Monday Dec 4th. We will post updates & new pictures as we have them. ***************
November 2006: Finn has pneumonia & has lost down to 37 lbs. We took him to a specialist from Auburn to make sure we were not missing something. He did a lung aspirate & the cultures came back negative. We are continuing on 2 antibiotics & echinnacea to boost his immune system. Also have a wonderful volunteer who is cooking chicken & rice and feeding him several times per day. ********************Oct 20: Finn appears to have a case of kennel cough & is losing weight. He is currently in isolation at the vet & is receiving the appropriate meds. One of our volunteers is making a batch of "Satin balls" to try & help add some weight. He should be feeling better in 7-10 days. Finn will need a loving foster home once he has gotten over his cough. ***********October 15, 2006 - Finn is now in the care of WRS after being found as a stray. He has only been with us here at home for a couple of hours and he has won us over! He is a charming little guy with light blue eyes, long ears, expressive face (he gets these great wrinkles on his forehead) and a great temperment. He has done fine here with our 2 weims- a bit unsure of them at first- but now he is running right along after them and doing everything they do. He has been great with my 2 small children- he has not knocked them over or jumped on them- most interested in trying to steal their snacks! My 2 year old daughter has been walking him around inside the house on a leash calling him *mine*. He is a bit on the thin side and needs to put on some weight- but other than that he is a handsome boy. We went around the block and he walks great on a leash- busy checking out all the new sights, sounds and smells. We are going to take him to the vet in the morning for a check-up and to get up to date on all of his shots- he stills needs to be neutered as well. Finn needs a foster home- his stay here with us is only temporary- if you are interested please fill out the online application and write foster next to your name.
His adoption fee will be $300.
Name: Bella   Age:    Gender: Female

Description:
We adopted Bella three years ago. She is such a love and everyone who meets her is crazy about her. She is very comical and can perform many tricks. We live in St. Simons Island, Ga. and so her favorite thing to do is to run on the beach and point at other dogs! Here are some fun photos. I will send you a copy of her super model debut. She is the featured dog in the July Pupparatzi ad down here. That is our local doggie boutique. Keep up the good work!
Name: Whitney   Age: 2 years   Gender: F

Description:
Update from Forever Home 10/06: Trick or treat from Whitney! Whitney has enjoyed quite a few treats this year. She was rescued by Weim Rescue and treated to lots of love and care by Mrs. Jennifer and her family. Mrs. Jennifer nursed her through heartworm treatment and spaying surgery. She also worked very patiently with us to place Whitney in her forever home. Whitney has only been with our family for 1 month but she fits in wonderfully! We are enjoying her and the excitement and love that she adds to our family. Her four legged sisters are both 14 years old and Whitney has added some pep to their days. Whitney*s two legged siblings love playing catch and chase with her. The three of them also love "treating" Whitney. She dances in circles and wags her tail sooo fast for any kind of treat! Whitney loves going to obedience classes. Treats, hugs and extra attention are a few of her favorite things (all of which you get at class!). She also loves to give kisses, snuggle in your lap and rest on top of you! We cannot imagine why anyone would ever abandon her. We feel very fortunate to receive our best Halloween treat ever, Whitney! Thanks Weim Rescue!!
Name: Gustav (formerly Gilley)   Age: approx. 2 years   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: Gilley, now Gustav, is doing GREAT! He and Boo are truly enjoying each other. He is a very "laid back" for a Weim and is great on a leash. My main focus right now is getting him in shape - he is quite the "foodie" / couch potato. Anytime anyone comments on how gorgeous he is, I try to get a plug in for WRS! I am attaching a couple of pics - thanks for checking back with us!!*****Gilley is approximately 2 years old, neutered, heartworm negative with no parasites. He weighs 72 lbs. and is now up to date on shots. We are using drops to clear his earmites up. He is a blue weim and is very loving and warm. He knows all basic commands, crates at night. I have a cat that goes in and out of the house. Gilley is a little rough with her so I make sure I monitor their time together. I believe he has been around cats before because he ignores her about half the time. He is nice to any one that comes to our house and shares his food or treats with the other dogs without growls or anger. He takes things from your hand so very gently. We love him and know he will be a great dog for someone.
Name: Jack   Age: 12-18 months   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Home 9/06: Jack is just wonderful. We have had him out and about a lot, and he is now completely at home at our place, having full run of the house while we are at work. We are looking forward to taking him to training classes in the near future. He is really well behaved, but we need him to learn to come when he is called especially when what he is doing is more interesting than coming to us. I have attached a couple of photos for you. We would love to bring him to a day out at Shelby Farms so he can play with the other weims.*****Jack came to us from a south Alabama shelter. He had been picked up running loose and his owners did not come forward to claim him. He is very much a puppy...easily excited and very active. He spent a few nights with a volunteer family before being transported to Birmingham. He held his own with the alpha-female. They argued over toys, but no real problems. Jack was very jealous of the other dogs in the home. He went into his crate as long as he has a treat, and barked some when crated. He appears to be house-trained, and did not attempt to mark in the house. He is tall & thin... ideal weight around 85 lbs. He is a jumper, and we will need to work on that. He knows sit, and down, and may even have been introduced to stay, but is a little too wired to be able to stay for very long. I think he will adjust well and probably calm down some when he gets used to his new environment. He has been cat/little dog tested and seems to be ok.
Up to date on shots, neutered, & on HW prevention.
If you are interested in fostering Jack, please fill out the online adoption application.
Name: Missy   Age: 2 years   Gender: Female

Description:
Update from Forever Home 9/06: Missy now has a new name (Maggie) which she responds to very well and a happy new life. Everything is great she and Landry are best of friends and are virtually inseparable. I have attached a couple of pictures from the park a couple of weeks ago.*****Update June 06: Missy spent the week of Memorial day with some volunteers, their 3 weims & their grandson. Missy was GREAT! She really seemed to enjoy the 12 yr old & slept with him every night. They all cried when they had to take her back! She is now in a foster home with 2 other dogs, 10 and 13 year old girls & a cat and everyone is doing well so far. Missy is a happy little girl who loves attention, giving kisses and of course playing! We will post an update as soon as we have more info....********** Update 5/06: Missy has turned out to be a great Weim and a great Mom. Although she shows some interest in cats, she is very obedient. She responds quickly to a firm "Missy, no" or "Missy, come here" command. She has not been around children, but besides getting a little excited around newcomers, she should do well with older children. She is also the typical VERY BONDED Weim. She looks for my approval on everything, and listens intently for my voice. She is housetrained, or pretty close to it. She stays in an x-pen at night with her pups, and only 2 times has she had an accident. Update 04/06: Missy had seven pups but only 1 has survived. She is filling in as surrogate mom to 5 other mixed breed pups whose Mom was very very sick. She is a very sweet girl & is learning to be a good mom. We will update photos soon.
****Missy was turned in to a Tennessee shelter...pregnant. To complicate things just a bit more, the shelter had an outbreak of parvo the day after she arrived. We were contacted by the shelter & thanks to some dedicated volunteers, were able to find a vet clinic who could hold Missy in isolation for 14 days to make sure she was not infected. They did an ultrasound and estimated the due date to be in 3 weeks. We just received a phone call today 3/24 from the clinic saying that Missy had given birth this morning & mom and pups were doing well. We are not quite sure who their daddy might have been, but as they get a little older we may be able to determine what they are mixed with! They will be cute & sweet regardless! Missy & the pups will be looking for wonderful adoptive homes after the babies are weaned (mid to late May).
The vet clinic has just raved over her sweet & loving personality.

Name: Callie   Age: 1 1/2 years   Gender: Female

Description:
UPDATE from Forever Home 2/07: Callie is great! She is such a special little girl, and we just adore her. We are working on crate training her. I never thought my husband would let a dog sleep in the bed, but Callie can be very convincing. She is small and timid (for a weim), and I think that makes us want to spoil her even more.*****Oct 2006 update: Callie has successfully completed her HW treatment. Yea! She is being weaned off the prenisone & will be spayed in late November. She is certainly enjoying her freedom since she had been confined for so long. Callie is in a foster home with 2 weim sisters, a ridgeback brother & cats and gets along well with all. As we said before, Callie is quite the charmer...even the vet staff who has nursed her thru the HW treatments has gotten very attached to this sweet girl. ********** Sept 2006 update: Callie is having some difficulty with her HW treatment. We are waiting for a few weeks before continuing with the 2nd round of injections. This is going to be a slow process and it may be December before she is healthy enough to go to her forever home. PLEASE remember, all of this could have been prevented if her original owners had given her HW prevention. Try to educate every dog owner you know about the prevention of Heartworms!!! *****Update May 2006: Callie has gained some weight & will be starting HW treatment the first of June. She really has a cute personality & charms everyone she meets. If you are looking for a smaller weim (in size not personality!) Callie fits the bill- she is a petite little girl- only 20 inches tall at her shoulders- we have been calling her "Mini Me". She walks nicely on a leash and loves to run and play in the backyard- she has even brought out the "puppy" in my 2 older weims! Callie has had some "spend the night parties" with one of our volunteers families which includes 2 weims & 2 young children. Callie has been great with all of them. She appears to be house trained (only 1 accident), but is a bit of a counter surfer (what weim isn*t?). She sleeps well in a crate during the night and has found a favorite place under my desk to sleep during the day while I work on the computer. She likes to know where you are at all times- the minute you get up she is right behind you! ******This sweet girl came to us from a Louisiana shelter. She is very underweight and unfortunately is Heartworm positive. Callie just needs to relax & gain some weight before she starts heartworm treatment. She is currently boarded, but would do much better in a home environment.
Name: Murphy   Age: 1 year   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Home 10/06: After fostering Murphy for over five months, we knew he was going to be a permanent fixture in our home! He is so loving and affectionate and our other Weim, Leica, adores him. Murphy loves to swim, run, chase balls and wrestle with his sister. He graduated from his first obedience class and we plan to continue on with his training. He has made such an improvement over the last seven months and is trusting strangers more and more each day. We cannot imagine our lives without him now! Update 5/06: Murphy celebrated his first birthday 4/28. He graduated from obedience class with flying colors and is very motivated by treats! He would benefit from additional classes to build his confidence and trust. We are trying to expose Murphy to as many new people as possible to help his fear of strangers. He initially may bark but he settles down pretty quickly especially if the new person he is meeting has a treat. He has been fine around children as long as they know not to charge at him. He usually wants to just sneak up and get a sniff of the new person when they are not looking! He is not a counter surfer and loves running and chasing tennis balls. He does not seem to mind being crated but he can usually only go about 5 or 6 hours max without having an accident. He is currently finishing up a course of antibiotics for a slight uti infection. He gets along great with other dogs and enjoys rolling around and wrestling with our other dog. He walks well on a leash. He loves to lean against you and be pet. He sleeps through the night on a dog bed. He has not been exposed to a cat yet but I do not imagine he would have issues with that.*******Murphy is a handsome boy who was turned in to rescue by a retired couple who said he chewed a lot and they just could not handle him. He is a young, strong male who weighs about 70 lbs and will be 1 year old in late April.
Murphy is doing well in his foster home & is getting along with foster sister Leica who is an alpha female. He was originally afraid of the hardwood stairs and strange noises...but is adjusting well. He was not comfortable when boarded at a vet clinic, so would not be the best candidate for someone who travels a lot & plans on boarding their dogs. Murphy started an obedience class last week which should help him to build self confidence when faced with new places, people, & dogs. He did very well at class & the trainer even used him as example for several commands. UTD on shots, on HW prevention, neutered, & house trained. We will keep you updated on his progress in obedience class!
Name: Wagner   Age:    Gender: Male

Description:
UPDATE 3/06 from Wagner himself: Look, Mommy! Hurry, come quick! There is white stuff falling out of the sky. I have never seen this stuff before. What? You call it snow. Oh, it is cold on my feet and does not smell very special. Let me back inside so I can watch it through the windows. What a fun game this is. When can we play again? I could play this game for hours. By the way, thank you for rescuing me after the hurricane. I like to play outside, but I would rather stay in here where it is warm and just watch outside. Thanks so much for my new life! *****Wagner was left homeless after Hurricane Katrina. He came thru the Tylertown, MS, temp shelter, then on to us. The Carters, who had adopted Chelsea and Jaggs from us, fostered him then adopted after his mandatory waiting period. As you can see, he is happy & loves his sister Chelsea.
Name: Mimi   Age: 4 years approx   Gender: Female

Description:
Update on Mimi (now G.G.) and Gretchen 10/06: I adopted Gretchen three years ago and G.G. just six months ago. These two girls happily enjoy chasing lizards and sunbathing in the backyard. They love their doggie door and run in and out as the birds eat at the feeder in the morning. Gretchen is the alpha and G.G. is just fine with that. G.G. was named after our very first family weim in the early 1960s. My Grandfather ordered her from Germany and named her G.G., short for grey ghost. He gave her to my Mother and I have been a weim-lover ever since. Both girls are in good health, despite Gretchen*s mast cell tumor scare and G.G*s kidney flare-ups. Gretchen and G.G. love each other and I am so happy I adopted another grey baby from WRS. ***Update*** Mimi is temporarily staying with a volunteer in Nashville and she says that she is the sweetest Weim and very calm. She understands sit well and lie down pretty well and is very responsive when you tell her to get off the bed or couch. Mimi does not love going in the crate to sleep but settles down quickly once inside. She appears to be friendly with all dogs and would make a wonderful pet for experienced or non-experienced weim owners. She does well on the leash if you use a training aid. Otherwise, she does like to pull - especially if she sees a squirrel or bird. We cat tested Mimi & she seems to be cat friendly, however she has not been in a home environment with cats.
Mimi is UTD on shots, on HW prevention, spayed, house trained & still needs a foster home! If you are interested in fostering OR adopting, please fill out the online adoption application and one of our volunteers will contact you.

**** Mimi came to us from a Tennesse shelter. She is a good girl, rides well in a car, knows a few basic commands, appears to be housebroken, good with other dogs. She pulls pretty hard on a lead & is a counter surfer, so we will have to work with her once she is in a foster home. She MAY be Ok with cats... introduced her to the clinic cat and she did not really seem that interested. The cat did NOT run so not sure about the chase factor, so will need to test further. She is up to date on shots, on HW prevention and spayed. Mimi does have some crystals in her urine & has been put on a special diet. She is currently experiencing some incontinence, but this should go away when the crystals are gone.
Mimi needs a foster home!!! If you are intersted in fostering her, please fill out the online adoption application & write FOSTER next to your name.
Name: Macy   Age: 8 years   Gender: Female

Description:
*****Update 1/22/06 Macy is a doll. A big doll, but a doll. She gets along fine with my adopted weim Emily. She is very (VERY) fascinated with my two kitties. She may be better in a forever home without cats, just to be safe. She is mostly well behaved & knows a few commands and usually listens (haha). We are working on down as she just cocks her head to the side and looks at you crazy when you say it now. Ha ha! She is definately got weim personality, with her cocked head and curious ears - as I like to say. I just love her. She has had a few bathroom accidents in the house, but we are working on it. I think that she just might not know much better.*****Quick update from foster mom 01/06: Macy is a sweetheart. She stole our hearts right away!!! Just goofy and wants to love on you & be loved on. She is interested in the cats, but the squirt bottle has been a good method of discipline and everyone is doing well together.
****Macy & her daughter Shelby came into rescue because their family could no longer care for them properly. Macy is a happy girl...just look at that smile! Macy would love to share her golden years with a wonderful, loving family. She needs a good round of obedience training to learn not to jump, but is crate trained & house trained. Up to date on shots, spayed, & on HW prevention. We have seen photos of Macy with a child & also with a toy breed dog. Hopefully, that means that she is good with both kids & small dogs, but we will test further when we get her into a foster home. She also appears to be cat friendly.

Name: Shelby   Age: 7 years   Gender: Female

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: Higgins and Shelby had a good afternoon with me. They explored all about the nooks and crannies and flopped out in the grass and sunned some on the wooden deck. They especially like to go behind our storage building (for mower and tools and such) and walk under bushes. We think it scratches their backs in a comfy way. Higgins and Shelby are playing more and more together. If Shelby had no injured back leg she would be quite a fast runner. She protects her leg and favors it some, but still she and Higgins still romp quite a bit. She is also fabulous in catching balls and swimming. We have seen her leaps and bounds so graceful and timely that we are enchanted by her and her delicate ways.*****Shelby is a very sweet, well behaved girl and would be a great companion for a first time weim owner or someone who does not want quite the challenge of a young dog. Do not misunderstand...Shelby is still active & enjoys playing! She gets along well with other dogs & has charmed everyone who has met her. Rides great in the car.... What else could you ask for???

***Quick update: Shelby has an old injury (& surgery) to a back leg. We took her to see an orthopedic specialist & he said that she does not need additional surgery, but could benefit from some supplements & also some massage therapy & even water therapy (swimming or underwater tread mill). We have already started the recommended supplements & massage therapy. A home with a pool would be FABULOUS for her!***
Shelby and her Mom, Macy came into rescue because their family could no longer care for them. Shelby is a sweet girl who loves to play ball. She sits for a treat and when really excited she will jump on you. Shelby needs a family that will make her a part of their family, give her plenty of love & attention, and work on obedience skills. She is crate trained & house trained. Up to date on shots, spayed & on HW prevention. We have seen photos of Shelby with a child & also with a toy breed dog. Hopefully, that means that she is good with both kids & small dogs, but we will test further when we get her into a foster home. She is NOT cat friendly.

Name: Bella**   Age: 7 months   Gender: Female

Description:
Update from Forever Home 4/07: We adopted Bella in December 2005 when she was about 7 months old. She is very petite for a weim, but is full of love and energy. After adopting Bella, I became a volunteer for the rescue and Bella now goes on home visits for potential adoptive families. Bella has been a wonderful addition to our family. Thanks to Weim Rescue!!*****Bella -Oh, she is so sweet! When I picked her up, she was a little shy. But she settled down quickly & rode in the car like a perfect angel. Just sitting up in the back seat checking things out. She was good with Miss Emily & the
cats. If anything, she only showed the cats attention when they showed her attention, but not in a mean way. She is just playful & loves to love on you. She definately wants to be in your lap or right at your side. Bella plays well with toys, fetching & giving them right back. She is a vacuum... barely chews, muchless breaths, and can finish a bowl of food in like thirty seconds. She stays in her crate well. Either sleeping, or queitly playing with toys. She would be happiest in a home with another dog to play with. The first time we let her in the main yard around the house (and off her leash), she darted
right to the pool, took a sniff & then took a dive! She did a lap and then came right back out. Apparently she is a swimmer. Anyway, that is why she is
wet in some of the pics!
Bella is up to date on shots, on HW prevention, spayed & house trained.

Name: Jabez (formerly Boyd)   Age: 1 1/2 years   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Adoptive Mom 8/06: Jabez (previously known as Boyd) is doing awesome. He has really adjusted well to his new home. Ann introduced us to the Cenntenial Dog Park and we have fallen in love with it. Jabez loves to run around with the other pups. He enjoys saying hello to all the people too! It has been to hot to go camping so far but we are thinking about October! Jabez says hello and not to worry because he has been a good boy and enjoys his new home! Thanks...Kim
*****
March 06 update: Boyd has been with us 5 weeks & is doing great. He enjoys exploring outside, but wants to be where you are. Boyd is now fully house trained & sleeps through the night. Plays well with the other 2 dogs in the home and quickly learned what was expected when taught the rules of the household. Just a sweet boy who has calmed down quite a bit since he has been in a home and is getting plenty of attention. *****
Boyd is a high energy boy who came to us from a Birmingham area shelter. He is a good boy, but very active....he just does everything with exuberance! High prey drive & not cat friendly, he would be best in an active family who is committed to obedience training. He jumped right into the back of my car no problem and he really enjoys riding in the car- he started out riding in the way back then jumped over and sat and rode in the third row of seats- then he decided he wanted to be a bit closer- rode in between my 2 kids in the second row of seats. Did not seem to be bothered by the kids. Seemed to know sit- and overall seems like a really friendly dog. He has a small patch of white in the middle of his chest. He did not do too well on a leash- but I am sure that he was really excited/nervous and might do better another time. Boyd is currently being boarded & needs a foster home to start on house training, crate training, & basic obedience skills. If you are interested in fostering Boyd, please fill out the online adoption application. We screen foster homes in the same manner as adopative homes: vet check, phone interview, & home visit. He is up to date on shots, neutered, & on HW prevention.
Name: Mork**   Age: 18 months   Gender: Male

Description:
Mork has a new name, a new family and a new chance at life. UPDATE from new parents 2/06: Wilson (formerly Mork) is doing great. He is extremely goofy and we love him here. My 2 year old daughter calls him her cowboy for some reason and he allows her to lay on him and watch TV, cover him in blankets, and they even play tug with his toys quite a bit. When he is not playing with our daughter he can always be found snoozing on the couch if we are in the living room or in the middle of our bed (taking up about 90% of the space). He really hates it when we make him get down at night and sometime in the middle of the night he sneaks back in bed with us with all the grace of an elephant (he knows we will be too sleepy to make him move then)! He loves to go camping and hiking but he is not too fond of cold weather. His favorite time of day is always meal time. He gets muddy every time it rains because he seems to like the rain or lack the good sense to stay on the porch. He could probably do with a round or two of obedience training this spring but for now he is a fairly well behaved man, just goofy and full of energy.****Mork and Mindy were found running near a busy street in central Alabama and were picked up by a kind soul. They were held at a local vet clinic for 2 weeks in hopes of finding their owners, but no luck. We have scanned them for microchips and found nothing. Mork is a sweet boy who seems to be afraid of cats. He is up to date on shots and neutered. We are testing for heartworms today, so should have test results in the next 2 days. If you are interested in fostering Mork, please fill out the online adoption form and simply write FOSTER next to your name.
Name: Tegan (formerly Bonnie**)   Age: 6 months   Gender: Female

Description:
Update from new parents 5/06: I just wanted to give an update on Tegan (used to be Bonnie). We love her! We cannot thank you all enough for what you do and for bringing us to her! I work at a dog daycare in Alpharetta and so she gets to come with me to work everyday! She gets along great with all the other dogs and she even gets to help out with tempermant tests!!! She is such a sweet girl! Tobler, our other weim loves her also. We take the
two of them out to the lake regularly so they get to play around. Tegan goes all the way up to her head in the water but has not quite made the jump into swimming yet! She also loves to run around and point out geese and birds in the woods!*****Bonnie & Clyde were turned into a central Alabama shelter because they played too rough with the 5 year old child in the home. The volunteers who pulled them from the shelter said they were both very sweet & rode well in the car. They were friendly & relatively calm with the kids who wanted to pet them in the lobby. Bonnie is up to date on shots, on HW prevention & will be spayed in a few days. She appears to be scared of cats, so should be able to learn to co-exist with cats without a problem. She is very attached to her brother, so probabaly would do best in a home with another dog.
Name: Memphis (formerly Clyde**)   Age: 6 months   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: Just wanted to drop you an overdue line about Memphis, the Weim formerly known as Clyde. He is growing like a weed and is up to roughly 80 lbs of pure muscle and great spirit. His personality is second to none and as they tend to be, he is one of the smartest dogs I have ever known. Memphis is a wonderful addition to our family and I am not sure that he or Stella, our Golden, could handle being apart from each other. They have become fast buddies and are virtually inseparable. We met up with his sister, formerly Bonnie, now Tegan, about two weeks ago and while there were no hugs and kisses, they played together in the group and had fun. There are some pictures attached and once again we thank everyone that had a part in it, for saving Memphis!
*****Bonnie & Clyde were turned into a central Alabama shelter because they played too rough with the 5 year old child in the home. The volunteers who pulled them from the shelter said they were both very sweet & rode well in the car. Clyde did get car-sick just as they pulled into the vet clinic to drop them off. They were friendly & relatively calm with the kids who wanted to pet them in the lobby. You can see that his coat looks spotty. This will change within a month of living inside & feeding a nutritious food! A good brushing will help too. Clyde is dependent on his sister & would do best with another dog in the home. He is up to date on shots, on HW prevention, & neutered. He was slightly intereted in the cats at the clinic, but after he was swatted in the nose, he did not want to investigate further! So we feel he would be okay in a home with cats. If you are interested in fostering or adopting this "baby boy", please fill out the online adoption/foster application.
Name: Mick   Age: 5 years   Gender: Male

Description:
Mick was adopted by his foster mom after he was diagnosed with Malignant Mast Cell tumors. The tumors were removed & he is now under the care of a holistic vet in the Nashville area. Our plan is to build up his immune system as much as possible, remove any toxins from the body, then treat with bloodroot which is used to kill cancerous cells. He is currently transitioning to a raw diet & is on several supplements. We are going to beat this! Please keep Mick in your thoughts & prayers.***************Update Aug 2006: Mick continues to do well in his foster home with 4 other weims. He has decided that his job is to pick all the tomatoes from my tiny garden. He also taught the other dogs his trick. Needless to say, there never is a ripe tomato anymore,so Mick is picking and eating the green tomatoes! Oh, forgot to say he has moved on to the cucumbers as well... So much for my attempt at a garden! He has learned many hand signal commands including sit, down, stay, come, drop, go potty, off, good boy & no...he also knows his name. (It is the sign for "boy" in human sign language, but do not tell Mick!) He would learn many more if someone had plenty of time to work with him. The perfect home for Mick would have at least 1 other dog, a 6 foot or higher privacy fence & people with patience, a sense of humor, & the desire to work with Mick. He would do better in an environment without kids, as he can be easily startled. We should all dream of sleeping as soundly as Mick! ****** UPDATE 11/05: Mick is just a great dog! We all went to the Boxer Bash (Boxer rescue outing) yesterday & I was very proud...several people commented on how beautiful & well behaved the weims were! There were probably 50 people & 30 dogs at the event & Mick was relaxed & friendly to everyone. He has become quite a snuggle bunny...loves sleeping on the pillows next to my head when Hattie will allow it. I am amazed at how he can make himself fit into the smallest spots if it means getting to be next to Mom. :o) He likes to play chase with Hattie & they also rough-house & wrestle. Mick is sort of a spaz...he gets excited & tries to turn the corner to quickly and goes sliding on the hardwood floors. He sometimes gets in such a hurry that he trips over his own feet. Just as cute & happy as can be! He does counter surf (like most weims) and I have to do a really good job of keeping the countertops clear. If you leave a 2 liter soda bottle out, he will steal it and take it to his crate... he does not chew it up or puncture it, just moves it. He is a funny boy who needs a family with a good sense of humor to appreciate him! People need to get past the fact that he cannot hear...he certainly has!*********
UPDATE from Foster Mom 07/08: Mick had a big day today...Mick foster siblings Hattie & Winston went swimming in the creek with their lab friend -Joy. I think this was Mick*s first experience with swimming. He basically stood on the bottom with his hind legs & splashed a lot with his front feet! His style improved greatly before the day was over. Mick loved retrieving toys from the water and running & playing with his new friend. Click on link below to view a short video of Mick exploring in the creek! (Please be patient, it takes a few seconds for the video to load). He does not meet a stranger (human or dog). Mick is a very friendly & happy boy! Mick is in the red collar, looking directly at the camera in the photo at the creek. Mick jumps completely over my sofa, so a 4ft fence is not going to work. I do think this exceptional jumping ability would make him a great candidate for agility! ******UPDATE from Foster home 06/05: Mick is a very sweet boy! He is working hard on learning inside manners and mastered the doggie door immediately. He is crating very well & sleeps all night without a sound. He has learned the signs for SIT, DOWN & COME....not bad for only 4 weeks. He is eager to work for treats, so hopefully that means he will learn quickly. He does bark when he is excited & waiting on his meals or if one of the other dogs walks by his crate & taunts him with a toy....those are really the only times that he barks. Mick gets along well with both his very alpha foster sister & his foster brother (both weims). He will run & play hard with the 5 year old female & then will put himself in the crate for rest time. He also likes to retrieve but had not quite mastered the command "drop". Loves to chew on a Kong! He does jump some & is mouthy - trying to grab your hand for attention - but we are discouraging these behaviors & are seeing less & less of them. All in all Mick is a very sweet boy that is happy to be middle to low man in the pack. Mick would be best placed in a home with no children, as he sleeps very soundly & could be startled from his sleep. He is way too interested in the cats at the vet clinic - so I would say he is NOT cat friendly. He will be a wonderful, happy companion for some lucky family!
****** Mick Dundee formally known as Nick is a very special 4 year old gray weimaraner. He is deaf. He was turned into a Louisiana shelter when the family could not keep him under control (due to lack of communication skills). When he was turned into the shelter the doctors discovered that he is deaf. Mick will need a special family who is willing to learn communication skills in order to work with him in a meaningful way. Mick is a jumper and high energy. He will need a good round of proper obediance training b/c of his special needs. He gets along well with other dogs... male & female. I do not recommend him in a house with young children. Mick is neutered, up to date on shots, house trained & on HW prevention. I will update when more is known about this very special boy.
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the online adoption application. For more info, simply send us a "contact us" form.

Name: Leroy**   Age: approx 2-3 years   Gender: Male

Description:
UPDATE 2/06 from new parents: Here are some photos of our sweet boy Leroy. We adopted him last October and he has made himself right at home. We have never had a weim before and we really did not know what to expect but four months later we cannot imagine life without him. UPDATE 8/05: Some things we have learned about Leroy: He will not get on the sofa while you are in the room
unless you invite him to do so. He will get on the sofa when you are away from the house, though. He does not like to enter the kitchen. He is afraid of the AC. If you ask him "Leroy, do you have to GO?" he will wag his tail pacing back and forth and run to the door if he needs to go out. He loves to sleep with his humans. He also loves drinking water from the sink as you are getting dressed in the morning. He really likes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (and everything else he can fit into his mouth). He is starting to gain weight. He will play jump and catch for hours. He loves his squeaky toy and will meet you at the front door with it when you come home.*****Leroy came to us from a shelter in central Alabama. He is a sweet boy & should be around 90 lbs when he is up to a healthy weight. Leroy had been neutered & is up to date on shots & on HW prevention. His HW test was actually inconclusive, so he will need to be re-tested in 3 months.
Leroy is NOT good with cats. We have not observed him around kids yet, as he is still being boarded. If you would be interested in fostering, Leroy needs a foster home & some "good home cooking" to fatten him up!
Please fill out the online adoption application to foster or adopt.
Name: Sigmond**   Age: 2 years approx   Gender: Male

Description:
Sigmond is loving his new home. He got to go to the lake last weekend & was able to brush up on his swimming technique. He even met a baby deer - pictures are coming soon! Everyone loves him, as he is so well behaved & friendly.
*********This is Sigmond who was saved from being euthanized in a Louisiana shelter. What a handsome boy! The family turned him in because they "did not realize how big he would grow to be". This 82 lb boy is house trained & responds well to his name and basic commands like sit, stay and down. He likes to retrieve & accidentally jumped into the pool this week. Let*s just say that he did not have great form in the water, but was not traumatized by the experience! This might have been his first swim - he might enjoy the water, but would probably do better to start in a lake where he could touch bottom. He barks when crated & even broke out of one crate - so this is probably new to him. He did not do well in the kennel at the vet either, so probably would not be good for someone who travels a lot & plans on boarding. He loves people & is what we call a "leaner" (leans against your legs to be loved on). Sigmond is up to date on shots, neutered, & on HW prevention. If you would like to adopt any of these wonderful weims, please fill out the online adoption application.
Name: Gil   Age: 4 years approx   Gender: M

Description:
CHECK OUT GIL IN THE VIDEO BELOW!! Update from Gil 7/06: In April 2005 I was rescued from a shelter in Tuscaloosa. The man who had me before never named me--he just called me dog or no name. The kennel was much nicer! People talked to me and gave me good food to eat. And they gave me a name - Gil. One day, two ladies came with two puppies to see me. I really did not know what to expect, but the next thing I knew I was in a car with them leaving the kennel. When we got to their house, a man walked on the deck. I was so afraid! That other man had always been so mean to me. I curled into a ball and tried to cover my head, but this man was different. He talked to me and petted me. I got to sleep inside with the two puppies. They called me Gil the foster dog. I did not really know what that meant. I played with the puppies (One is really calm and laid back; the other one is wild, but I really love her!) We get to come inside and watch television or play with toys or take naps on the couch. One day the man said that he did not think I could be happier anywhere else--that they might as well just adopt me. Now I am called Gil the no longer foster dog. I am really happy! I think my people are happy too!*****Update from Foster Family 9/05: Gil is doing so well! His new medication has made a world of difference in his behavior. He is so much calmer. When he gets really excited, he still tries to jump up, but we are working hard on that. He has gained weight and he looks great. He loves playing with his foster brother and sister, but he is just as happy taking a nap beside my chair when I am at the computer. He is just the sweetest boy! *******Update from foster family 06/05: Gil has just graduated from Obedience Level I! We are so very proud of him. He really is a great dog! He does suffer from severe separation anxiety, but we are trying him on a different medication, and hopefully that will help. As long as he is with someone or another one of the dogs, he is fine. He just does not want to be left alone, and he can be destructive when left by himself. He is so different from the skinny, scared dog that we brought home! He plays with our two Weim puppies (also from Weim Rescue). He loves to play with toys and likes to carry stuffed toys around in his mouth. I think he is enjoying the puppyhood that he probably never got before. He is housetrained and loves to play outside. He would be best in a home with other animals or with someone who can be with him most of the time. now weighs 72 (he has gained 20 lbs!), and he looks great!*****Update 4/10/05: They say a picture is worth a thousand words....What more can we say? Gil is making himself at home with his new foster family and doing just great with the 2 young weims in the house! Gil has some separation anxiety & needs to know someone--human or animal-- is at home with him. He loves his stuffed toys and likes to carry one around with him. Gil really wants to please...Sometimes it just does not happen, but he tries. Gil*s foster family is actually taking him to obedience training & he is doing very well! He is up to date on shots, on HW prevention & neutered and would make a great addition to your home!*****Update 4/6/05: Good news from the vet. Gil is doing great & has recovered from his bout with pneumonia. He is eating well & starting to come out of his shell. We now know that he is NOT good with cats. We will post additional updates as we get to know Gil.*****Gil came to us from a central Alabama shelter where he had been turned in with 2 labs. The owner simply did not want the dogs anymore. Gil was so scared that he would not eat nor make eye contact. He just cowered in the corner of his run. A local volunteer went by to meet him, armed with a "happy meal". That perked him up! The volunteer could not stand to see him in the shelter & took him directly to her vet. He is now up to date on shots, neutered, & on HW prevention. Our adoption coordinator visited with Gil on Saturday & he is very sick with pneumonia. He is currently on an IV with antibiotics & other meds. We will keep you posted on his health. Gil REALLY needs a patient foster home as he is still very scared in a kennel environment. If you would like to adopt, please fill out the online adoption application.

Name: Dugan**   Age: Approx 2 years   Gender: M

Description:
Potter (aka Dugan) has settled in nicely! He has gained about 7-10 lbs and already feels at home enough to counter surf. He loves giving kisses, dancing and sitting in my lap. He has taken kindly to boat rides and greets all the boats at the marina with a happy hello, not to mention a kiss or two for the dock workers! I have been working all summer to get him to swim and last weekend we had a break through! I jumped in, Weim sister Daisy jumped in and Potter just followed! Although scared and confused, he relaxed once I got him on the life jacket and then swam comfortably back to shore. And although he did not get in again, I do have high hopes for him for this weekend!
His puppy lessons are going very well. He stays (once I get him to sit) and is excellent on leash. He also comes when called 95% of the time on the first try. I have really been proud of his progress! He and Daisy are getting along well. They play until pooped and only fuss with each other at dinner time. He has become a true member of the family.
I am so lucky to share my life with him!!!
Name: Cal**   Age: 5 years   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever parents 7/06: Here are some pictures of "Cal boy". We adopted Cal in Oct 2005 and he has been our big baby boy ever since. He and his older brother Duke are inseperable. Cal*s all-time favorite toy is still a tennis ball. He just likes to chew it in his mouth and I have to pry it out in order to play fetch. He will go and get the ball and bring it back but he just does not want to let it go out of his mouth. He has the most personality of any dog I have met. One of his cutest faces is when he shows his pouty lower lip. He cannot seem to get enough of my hugs & kisses and he spoils me right back with his kisses. Cal obtained his Canine Good Citizen certification in January. Our next family pet will definitely be another adopted Weim!****My husband and I adopted Cal nearly 1 month ago here in Atlanta. He was a 5yr old rescue from Louisiana. He has been a wonderful addition to our family and gets along wonderfully with our 11yr old beagle/lab mix. Cal had his first obedience class this past Monday and is a quick learner. We could not have adopted a better dog!!! Thanks for helping out these wonderful dogs!
****Cal is a sweet 5 year old male who came to us from a Louisiana shelter. He is up to date on shots, neutered, & on HW prevention. Cal is being fostered in the New Orleans area in a home with a female & a male weim. He is doing just great so far. He crates well, walks well on a prong collar, but is a bit nervous around heavy traffic. He is lovable & enjoys giving his foster mom kisses! He seems to understand the basic commands, but does not always respond to those quickly. A basic obedience course would be a great way to refresh his skills & also provide a wonderful environment to bond with his new mom or dad.
New pictures coming soon...
Name: Hunter**   Age: 9 months   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Mom 7/06: Here are some current pics of Hunter. He is the funniest dog I have ever met. His favorite game is chase, so that is why he has the hanger. Only mom and dad*s things are fun because they will chase him to get them back. He has really turned out to be a great dog and the biggest cuddle bug for me and Van (our other weim). We are so happy to have him in our family! Thank you again!*****Hunter is a sweet young boy that is 9 months old this month. His family is giving him up due to his high activity level which requires more time than they are able to give. He would do best with older children, as he does not realize his own size. Obedience training is a MUST for anyone who adopts this extremely active boy! The best home for Hunter would be one with weim-experience. Hunter is housebroken, good with other dogs, likes to chase cats. He is neutered and up to date on shots and is on Heartworm preventative.
Name: Tigerlily**   Age: pup   Gender: Female

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: In January of 2005, I lost my 13 year old Weim. I knew that I wanted to get another female, but I did not plan on getting a puppy. However, there were few females available at Weim Rescue, and Kim kept telling me, "There are two female puppies left!" The next thing I knew I was bringing home a four month old Weim whom I named Battina Tigerlily. My daughter had adopted one of the male puppies on Dec. 31, so we were already training one puppy. How much more trouble could another be?! Little did I know! I cannot even begin to relate all of her misadventures, but, of course, I love her even with all of her wildness! Her latest adventure was getting a bottle of champagne off the wine rack, taking it to the couch without breaking it, and trying to open it. She had removed the foil and was working on the cork when we discovered her! Life is not dull with Tigerlily around! But I cannot imagine my life without her!*****Tigerlily (formerly Adeline) has settled in really well. She seems really at home. She is just great! She learns really quickly, and is so loving. Tigerlily went to the vet for shots this week, and she weighs 20.8 lbs, so still fairly small. She especially likes to have her tummy rubbed but does not really like to have her picture taken! Had to sneak & take her picture while she was sleeping... Thanks again for everything!

Name: Ellie**   Age: 15 weeks   Gender: Female

Description:
Ellie is one of the puppies from Scarlett and her new dad and mom have only good things to report! We just wanted to send an update and let you know how Ellie is doing. We have had Ellie a little over a week now and she is so sweet. She already knows how to sit, lie down and come - she is learning so fast. Ellie is quite the little lap dog. She is very content sitting on our laps and napping. She has also figured out how to wag her tail, which is very very cute. She is making friends quickly with the other dogs in the neighborhood and with everyone she meets. We would like to say thank you to everyone at the weim rescue for letting us adopt such a special little girl. We will send more pictures of Ellie in the next few weeks. Tim and Kelly

Name: JJ   Age: approx 5 years   Gender: M

Description:
August 2008 update: Look at JJ smiling... :) They play some, but mostly they kiss each other and they will get on one dog bed together - I think they are just mellow old dudes now - they are TOO cute together. HOWEVER, JJ does go crazy and run really fast back and forth between rooms and jump on the sofa - it is hilarious! When we were walking the other day I was thinking about Gustav because he loved our walks and because I was thinking about how crazy it was that JJ took so long to be adopted because he is so amazing. I thanked JJ for waiting to come live with us because Gustav needed us more at that time. I don't know if that makes since, but I totally believe that he was destined to be part of our family.
Oh my goodness, he is just a funny guy!! He has just settled in like he's been here forever. He follows me around and loves kisses. He is really eating well. He and Boo are doing great, still no problems. We went for a walk yesterday and he was fine with the dogs we encountered along the way. We ran a little bit, but it was warm, so I did not want to over do it... I think he enjoys SHORT runs, as do I!*****

March 2008 Update: What a great boy. He gets along get with all the boys and girl. He enjoys playing with Lucy and Colonel. His favorite spot to be rubbed is on his back and he will moan with joy. He sleeps in his crate at night and snores like he has no care in the world. He has started to get into the bathtub for baths without a struggle. What a wonderful boy he has become.********** 06/25/05 JJ is officially heartworm FREE. He is really enjoying not being confined anymore. He went running around the yard today with Eli like two boys who have not seen each other in awhile. JJ is ready for his FOREVER home. He is a wonderful companion. He weighs 60 lbs and will be gaining about 10 more pounds to get him at his ideal weight. Updated pictures will be coming soon.

04/30/05 JJ has really blossomed into a fun loving young man. He enjoys playing with his foster brother Eli. He has come to understand that touching by a human is love not hate. He is finally putting on weight and he skin is shiny and soft. He will get his second shot for his heartworm treatment on the 11th of May. JJ will be great in a house with a large dog that is submissive, as JJ likes to be the boss. He still loves his stuffed animals and treats them as babies.

JJ probably would not do well in an extremely "busy" home, as the activity would make him nervous. JJ enjoys running around with stuffed animals in his mouth and will retrieve them. He does excellent in a crate. He is not a digger and has not tried to escape the yard. JJ will not do well in a house with small animals. The ideal situation for him is a companion of the same or near same size. JJ would also benefit from a good round of obedience training which helps in bonding to a new owner. If you are intested in adopting, please fill out the adoption form at the top left of the web site and a coordinator will contact you.
Name: Niles - Puppy**   Age: 12 weeks   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Home 8/06: Niles is doing great! He is 98 lbs, big and full of energy. The ladies at his Doggy Day Care say he is the biggest Weim they have ever scene. We love our new buddy and we hope all the other puppies are as loved as Niles. His favorite things to do are eat :) sleep and chase the rabbits in the yard. He tries to play with the cat but she will not have any of that. Here are a few photos I recently took while we were our playing fetch in the field.*****Niles was adopted to a family in the Atlanta area. It looks as through this little man has settled right into his new home. We look forward to continued updates!
Name: Higgins   Age: 4-5 Years ?   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: Higgins and Shelby had a good afternoon with me. They explored all about the nooks and crannies and flopped out in the grass and sunned some on the wooden deck. They especially like to go behind our storage building (for mower and tools and such) and walk under bushes. We think it scratches their backs in a comfy way. Higgins and Shelby are playing more and more together. Higgins is a big sweetie. He checks on where we are and what we are up to. He loves to sunbathe on the deck and look out over his domain. He is a calm and quiet wonder and a handsome noble fellow. He likes to chase cats out of the yard and he likes to sniff. He has a great nose. He and Shelby make a team in that he is the nose and she is the eyes. We love to watch them going out together after a scent. Squirrels and chipmunks in the park are great fun for them. Sometimes they glide off the deck in perfect coordinated movements like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.***WEIM AND CHEESE CELEBRITY, yes, that*s what Higgins was this past weekend at our annual fund raiser for WRS. We had several Weimaraners at the function this year, and Higgins was amazing. As he walked across the stage, he politely sat and faced the audience so they could see the beautiful boy he has blossomed into after having wonderful foster parents nurse him back to health. During the rest of the night*s activities, he was calm and collected lying on his blanket as enthusiastic bidders bid on wonderful dog art, dog accessories, vacations, antiques and a host of other things. Anyone who wanted to get to know Higgins was accepted as an old acquaintance, with a gentleman*s manners and grace. For a first time Weimaraner owner, or someone slowing down in their golden years, Higgins would be the perfect match to welcome into your home. Won*t you fill out your application today?*****Higgins should be a large boy, but needs considerable feeding to get him back up to weight. He needs a home to recoup in and learn the ways of a spoiled Weim. He likes to go on walks and is good with other dogs in an open yard. Higgins cannot be left alone in a fenced area, with a barrier 4 feet or lower. He has climbing abilities!
Name: Buddy 2**   Age: 2   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from adoptive dad 05/05: Buddy is doing great & has enjoyed making new friends at the parks near our home.

Update from Foster Parent: Buddy is a natural weim with full tail but is good at keeping it in control. He is very active and loves to play! He gets along great with other dogs and is very nice to children. He has not been near cats yet. He knows sit, down and shake. Buddy is crate trained and does not have any separation anxiety with us. Buddy is about 65 pounds but we are trying to put some more weight on him. He could probably stand to gain 10-15 more pounds. Buddy is a good companion, he is a slight leaner and he is great on a leash. He has lots of energy and would make a great running buddy!-----------------------------This sweet boy is finally in a foster home in Atlanta and is the such a love. Picked him up from the vet, he got into the crate with a big Mother Hubbard cookie. He did well in his crate and when talked to, you would hear his tail wagging. This boy has a grin a mile wide and is so happy. When visiting a home before dropping him off in Atlanta, he got along well with 2 male and 2 female weims. He met the next door neighbors chins and would probably do best in a home without small dogs or cats. Buddy has alot of energy so would be great as a running pal or a structured activity. He needs an obedience class to learn what is expected of him and it would be a good bonding time for you and Buddy. He is so wonderful and would be a wonderful foster!---------------Update from Volunteer: I went to see Buddy today and what a sweet boy. He is finished with his heartworm treatment and is such a sweet, happy boy. He is ready for an adoptive/foster home. Buddy has been at the vets office far too long. He is a big leaner with a full tail and loves hugs. He has a lab buddy at the clinic and according to them he gets along wonderfully with dogs and people. There is a clinic cat and Buddy grins and barks at the cat. -----------------------------------Buddy was picked up by a good samaritan in Springville, Alabama. She is a Collie breeder and rescuer, and has decided to keep Buddy until an adoptive/foster home becomes available. He is being checked out by a vet. Pics and more information will become available when we get to know Buddy.
Name: Mousse**   Age: 10 weeks   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: Mousse is just the best dog ever! He is so calm and loving. He is definitely not your typical Weim. I got him on December 31, 2004, and he was such an adorable puppy. Now he weighs just over 100 lbs! But he is beautiful! He has the tan markings on his face and legs that some of Scarlet and Moose*s puppies had. Everywhere that we go people remark on his markings and his personality. I cannot imagine my life without him!*****Mousse was adopted to a wonderful family in the Birmingham area. This little guy loves his new home. He has even made friends with the big one that looks just like him! We look forward to see more pics of Mousse as he grows.
Name: Yuri   Age: Young - Less than 2 Years   Gender: M

Description:
Update 08/29/06: Yuri is doing great! He is our king and sometimes I think he is in charge of the house, not us. He is the sweetest boy in the world and we just adore him. We recently took him the the weim play-day at Lake Allatoona and he had a blast playing with all his furry friends. In this picture Yuri has discovered pillows. He has never liked pillows or blankets, every time he gets in the bed or on the sofa he swipes all the pillows on the floor. I guess he was really tired one day and I walked in the living room to see him taking a nap with his head on the pillow. From then on he always has to take a nap with the same pillow, he is too funny! I have to say, if anyone is thinking of adopting one of these precious weims please do it, Yuri is the best thing that has ever happened to us!*****UPDATE from adoptive family 05/05: Yuri is doing great!! He is such a lovable sweet boy. Yuri aims to please and just grins ear to floppy ear when he knows he has done something good. We are in the process of building a fence for Yuri to be able to run and play in but in the meanwhile Jacob takes him to the baseball field every week where they play catch. I think he misses playing with his step-sister Jose but for the most part I think he is very happy. He is finally HOME. We have just a queen size bed but that does not stop Yuri from sleeping right in the middle, completely laid out with the biggest smile across his face. He is our best friend.....he
makes us the happiest parents in the world!!!
Name: Rhett   Age: approx 3 years   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from Forever Mom Christmas 2006: Rhett has been with me for two years, one year as a foster and the other as mine. His name suits him well...he is a true Southern Gentleman and very devoted to me. He has adapted to being second in command of the pack well and takes his job seriously. Rhett is still thin and has very little muscle but his vet check-up this month went well. He loves to travel in the truck and greets strangers with a wagging tail. Everyone who saw Rhett when he first came into rescue cannot believe the change and remark about what a beautiful boy he has turned into. He has the shiniest coat. He is on puppy food for the extra calories and nutrients and is doing very well. I walked all the dogs to the river yesterday. Rhett ventures out on his own now but always comes to check on me. Zane started barking and Rhett came a running to make sure we were alright. Rhett has been such a joy and a wonderful friend. Attached is a photo taken this morning. He waited for everyone to open their package before he opened his. Thank you, Weim Rescue, for allowing Rhett to become a permanent member of our family. *****Update from foster mom 06/05: We took Rhett out for his first adventure into the woods with the four-wheeler. Rhett was so funny because he was so alert and afraid of the sights and sounds. He lagged behind about 75 feet. When I called him, he came trotting and stepped on a branch about 8 feet long laying on the ground. The leaves moved at the other end and Rhett had no idea what was after him.........he jumped about 5 feet in the air, let out a cross between a bay, howl, growl and bark and hauled butt to get to Konig (weim foster brother)! He stayed right by Konig after that. When we got home, he made it right inside the door and went to sleep, safe and secure at home. His first adventure out was exhausting, mentally and physically! *********
Update 04/05: Rhett has successfully completed his HW treatments & was neutered May 23rd. He did great with the surgery and even opted to take out his own stitches. LOL. He is slowely being weaned off the prednisone that he was originally put on for digestive issues when he first came to us. He has gained 6 pounds in this last month since becoming heartworm free so he is thickening up. Rhetts coat is very shiny and in great shape and he is a very loving boy. He loves water so much that he will go into the duck pond any chance he gets or else he will play in the water bucket outside. Rhett is very used to having someone at home with him during the day and would probably like a new family where someone was home most of the time. He also has done really well with the other dogs in the house. He is doing really well with meeting new people and showing more confidence. If you have a small place in your heart and home, I hope you would consider to adopt Rhett. He has had a rough start and deserves to live the good life. *******
Update from Foster Mom Jan 05: Rhett is a character! He runs like a gaited horse - throwing is front feet way in the air - and has a hound dog howl. He is putting weight on and his coat is so shiny, but still has some bald spots. Rhett knows sit and down. He slept in my room on the dog bed with no accidents in the house. He is out of the crate more then he is in it and sure loves his freedom. Rhett loves to be cuddled and is such a pleaser, he wants to make me happy. He follows konig every where, even through the dog door to go out side. Konig, the foster brother is housetraining rhett!! Rhett started his HW treatment 2/21/05 and will be ready for his forever home in April.--------------------------------------

Rhett is sooo happy to be in a home environment! He prances around, throwing his feet out front sort of like a racking horse! They have moved Rhett*s crate into the bedroom & now his foster mom has to wake HIM up in the mornings. He just needed to be closer to humans! He is still sticking close to the dominant male, Konig. Rhett also is playing well with Yoshi, the other foster weim in the home. He has gained some weight & will be starting his HW treatment soon. He should be ready to go to a forever home late April.

If you would like to adopt Rhett, please fill out an adoption form. The link is at the top left coner of the web site.
Name: Rosi**   Age: 5 months   Gender: Female

Description:
Rosi....She is doing amazing! In two days she has learned the "sit" and "come" command. She is extremely trainable and obedient! We are working very hard on the potty training and what she can/cannot chew. She has had very few accidents in the house and is quickly learning that grass is the best surface to go potty on! Now, while she is doing her business she looks up at me with such pride because she knows she is doing the right thing. I took her to the vet today and they could not believe she was a 5mo old weimaraner because she was so calm and attentive. They absolutely loved her and kept sending the rest of the staff in to see her. Needless to say she filled up on treats fast! We have gone on several walks with her foster brother and sister and she has been great on a leash. Although she wants to run ahead with them, she does not pull. Besides long walks around the neighborhood, Rosi loves to watch TV! So far her favorite TV show is Trading Spaces (she loves all the paint colors) and her favorite movies are The Bourne Supremacy and Love Actually. She literally sits in front of the TV and watches!-it is very cute. Well I think that is it. We will get some pictures to you soon. She will be spayed in mid-January.-------------Rosie is a puppy from one of the litters of the MS Weims. She is a tiny little girl at 26 pounds and is heartworm negative. She will be spayed as soon as she is old enough.
Name: Eli**   Age: 3 years   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from forever home 5/06: I wanted to email you to let you know how well Eli is doing. We adore this
dog! We took him to Cinncinnati Ohio to compete in a hunt test. He got a qualifying score on Saturday!! I was so proud of him. People do underestimate him since he is missing his leg. He was so cute; he went out to the bird field and found a bird, held the point and waited while I flushed the bird and shot the pistol. Here is a picture of him with our friend Jeni who was the foster mother of Marilyn. Jeni has been talking me through some training to get him ready for the competition. Also, I wanted to let you know I submitted Eli*s story and how wonderful Weim Rescue of the South is and he was picked to be in the rescue parade at the Weimaraner National dog show in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Thank you for all you do. I am sending a few other pictures also. One of him sun bathing and one with his cowboy hat on (notice the dirt on his nose, he had been digging for moles)! He stays very busy on the farm!!!*********

Eli was dropped off at a shelter in Mississippi. He has had some kind of trauma as he is missing his right front leg. Do not underestamate Eli though! He is house trained and does well with his two Weim foster brothers. He is a love. He can give good hugs and also get into the bed on his own. He has a skin problem that we are working on right now with the appropriate medicines. HW+. He is only vocal when he wanted to go potty. Eli is great on a leash. He sits on command and responds to his name.
Name: Rainey**   Age: young   Gender: Female

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: I just wanted to let you know that we have been extremely happy with Rainey who we adopted in January of 2005. I am not sure if you know her past but she was hit by a car and I guess her owners could not afford to pay for her injuries. The Weimaraner Rescue had her all fixed up-pins in both hips and a plate in her pelvis. She had been placed in foster care in Birmingham. I think they only had her a day when we meet her and wanted her. She was a little timid at the beginning but she quickly became comfortable with our living conditions were dogs sleep on beds and sofas. She has always been well behaved when it has come to our children. We have two girls 5 years and 14 months. Rainey adjusted very well to the birth of our second 4 months after she arrived. We have not experienced any problems with her pins or plate. We walk everyday and she still gets a burst of crazy energy when we are playing in the yard. We have made sure to keep her weight down and she takes Glucosamine everyday. We are pretty convinced that her past injuries will not affect the quality of her life. Overall we have had a great experience and are so glad that we went the rescue route. It felt really good to give a home to such a sweet little girl like Rainey. I know if we ever wanted another weim we would definitely adopt again. She looks great-hair has grown over her scars and she looks pretty normal for all she has been through. We are definitely happy and from what I can tell so is Rainey.*****Update for Adopting Family: We absolutely love Raney. She has adjusted really well to our house and life style. She loves laying in the sun anywhere she can find it in our house or backyard. She has found a nice place on the sofa and she sleeps between us in bed at night. We just could not let her sleep in her own bed (We are the biggest softies). We have been taking her on walks everyday and she loves the backyard. She has been eating really well and has only had one little accident. I know it has not even been a week but we know we made the right choice adopting her. She is so sweet and calm yet has a little spunk to her when she is playing with her toys (Hollis and I went to the store and picked her out some). She seems to be the perfect mix of puppy and mature dog. We are really happy. It is great to have a weim around the house again.*****Raney was hit by a car and taken to an emergency clinic by her original owners. The bills mounted up and they could not pay for her injuries to be corrected. We were contacted and will be seeing to her medical needs, which includes a fractured pelvis. This girl is super sweet, grew up with kids and has not been tested with cats. Rainey has a lot to deal with - an injury and losing the only home she has known all at the same time. This girl needs some TLC to see her through her through surgical recovery from her injuries and someone to give her a new start. Please consider fostering Raney so that she might heal in the comfort of a home.
Name: Ina**   Age: 1.5 years   Gender: Female

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: Ina came into our family after our 14 year old Weim passed away in fall of 2004. She is a love. I met her family that contacted WRS to find a home for her because they had a new baby in the family and it was just too much for them. Ina has a few problems but with patience and guidance through a trainer we have come so far! She loves riding in the car, with her head out the window constantly letting the world know she is on the road to home!!! We had two cats when Ina arrived plus Taz, the Jack Russell. They all did very well with one another. And yes, she began sleeping right next to me but as time moved along has been anywhere there is space for her to stretch out on the bed. She has enjoyed having Billie Sue (formerly Dutchess) to hunt with and I must say she is so gentle. She brought me a baby rabbit. It was not hurt so I took it back to the area where Mama Rabbit had been enjoying some of my hostas, and sure enough I found the nest. Ina remained with me the rest of the day with a few breaks where I went with her to encourage a different path. Ina rides in the back of the car, Taz stays on the passenger front seat, and Billie Sue rides in the crate, which she likes. So if you by chance see a Weim with her head out the window on our street and a Jack Russell sitting in the front seat, Billie Sue is talking, too!....It is my Crew! At this time I would like to commend WRS for having Debbie Kirkwood on their team, I realize she is on a break right now, but she was a blessing when we began our adoption procedures. She offered so much information and guidance about taking on strange, 2 year old Weims and I think of her often. Thanks for letting me brag about my GIRLS!*****Ina is staying with her owner until we find a home for her or they relocate. She is an excellent dog..Family has a new baby and does not have time for her. Ina is 1.5 years old and her owners are moving to the west coast and cannot take her with them. She is the perfect dog. Housebroken, gets along with cats and dogs and loves to play with kids. She is spayed and up to date on shots and on Revolution for flea and heartworms. Please help find Ina a permanent and forever home. Fill out an adoption form if you are interested in Ina.
Name: Jess**   Age: Young   Gender: Male

Description:
Jess was such a charmer that his foster family just could not let him go. He is now officially a member of the family!
***FOSTER UPDATE - I am happy to report that Jess is HW free and has gained 10 pds and is now at 81 pds. The vet thinks that Jess had a mild case of HW. Jess is an absolute joy. He responds to some verbal commands like sit and lay down. We are working on stay, wait and off. He is kennel trained and has learned how to use the dog door. He must be kept on a leash at all times. He walks very well on a training collar. He will not be a cat lover, although, he has not been cat tested. He seems to want anything outside that moves. He is a real ladies man around the house, so we also call him the "STUD PUP." Jess will do best around female weims only. My Abby adores him and my Chloe, well, she just tolerates the man. We went to the lake this weekend and he did not care for any males that were around because he wanted to dominate. He did very well around my 7 month old nephew. He does show signs of abuse, but is rapidly coming out of his shell because he is discovering that he can be himself. Jess needs and wants to be in everybodys business. One thing is for sure, we love Jess and pray that he finds a good forever home. He would be wonderful with other female weims or even a one on one human relationship b/c he also thinks that he is a lap dog and enjoys that type of one on one.***
Jess is a young neutered male UTD on shots and is heartowrm positive. He was rescued from a Baton Rouge Animal Shelter & is HW+. He is a very sweet boy who was delivered to the New Orleans volunteers during their meet and greet day at the park.
Name: Jasper**   Age: young   Gender: Male

Description:
Update from New Mom: Jasper is doing great. He is a great travelling buddy: loves river rides in canoes, a little scared of swimming, loves running, the farm, and most importantly he passed the test at my parents house in Huntsville. He is quite the shy boy around new dogs, true definition of tuck tail and run. He is still bold in protecting Bella. They get along great and do everything but sleep at night together. She licks him nonstop, jumps all over him. He either plays back or just ignores the attention. He can act like such an old man. He is great. -------------------------------------------Jasper has been cat tested and thing did not go so well. We recommend a home without cats but he did very well with children ages 5 and up and was very polite to them. -----------------------Jasper is a handsome blue Weim. He needs to gain a few pounds but otherwise seems healthy. He is now UTD on his shots and is on HW prevention. Although he does not show direct reaction to the cat, we will test him further to make certain he will be friendly to them. ---------------------------Jasper is a very young male that was brought in from the local human society. We do not know too much about him or his sister Ashley, but we need a FOSTER home for him. If you can foster Ashley please fill out a volunteer application and one of our coordinators will get back to you as soon as possible.
Name: Blue 2**   Age: 8 Months   Gender: Male

Description:
UPDATE from MOM: Carl is now almost 2 years old, weighs 60 lbs, and is the ideal house pet! Blue is 9 months old, weighs 63 lbs. (he needs a bit more weight and muscle yet) and has great potential to be a real snuggle/lover doggie! in addition to a wonderful companion (My daughter insists it sounds silly to say that, but it is true.) He is already extremely loyal and we have trained him with most of the basic commands. He is a quick learner. After 4 walks with him, he is able to walk loose-leash with no tugging at all and is a real pleasure to walk with. We are so glad that fate stepped in and somehow we wound up with these 2 adorable friends! Im thrilled and grateful that I was able to stumble upon the Weim Rescue and that so many people can find great pets this way! Thank you for placing these dogs with families and the time you have put into caring for these friends!--------------------------------------Blue was a owner surrender and is just in the wonderful world of Weimaraner Puppy-Hood!!! He is just full of himself and happy to be alive. Blue needs a fair amount of attention and like most all Weims a good, complete course of obedience training. He is crate trained and very happy to have a Weim foster brother to play with. Blue has some seperation anxiety but will do well with some reassurance and gentle control. He does chew when unsupervised. He will do well with a basket full of dog friendly toys and chew bones and some reminding of what is his, and what is yours.
Name: Gretchen 3**   Age: 10   Gender: Female

Description:
Update from Forever Home: 7/06: I have now had Gretchen for just over two years, and we celebrated her 13th birthday in May. I have given her two nicknames--Baby Girl (for obvious reasons) and Teeny Weeny (because she is so much smaller than my other Weim, Caesar). She fits in perfectly with me and Caesar, who is 12, and I cannot imagine my life without her. Of course, she has risen to the rank of Alpha Dog--she is the first one on the couch, the first one to jump on the bed, the first one out the door; but Caesar seems quite comfortable with his new status despite an occasional growl. She loves walks in the park, and she is an accomplished hunter. She is completely fixated on birds--she will sit on my balcony for hours watching them land in trees and bushes. In fact, she has caught a number of birds in mid flight--two chomps and they are dinnner! Yuck! In April, she had her yearly check up, and the vet said that she is in perfect health. She is the sweetest, most loving dog, and I am so glad to spend my time with her. She, like most Weims, is a "velcro" dog and follows me everywhere, and, like Caesar, loves to ride in the car. Her favorite spot is in the passenger seat! Her other favorite pasttimes are chewing rawhide bones, destoying squeaky toys, and, yes, food! She LOVES Nutro/Ultra canned dinners--I only give them on special occasions! We are still working on the "snotty nose" issue, but she only dribbles when either she is excited or wakes up after a long sleep. As I finish this update, both she and Caesar are howling at a passing fire truck. Both throw their heads back, roll their "lips," and howl non stop! What a site!*****Gretchen is a loving senior who needs a new family due to a divorce in her human home. She is in good health although she may be just a bit too thin. Her foster mom says she is very energetic for her age and loves to play with her foster siblings. Gretchen has a slight cough and runny nose which is being treated by antibiotic and is otherwise perfectly fine. She is fostering with two human siblings also and doing just great with her young companions. She has a very friendly disposition and loves to greet new people. If you would like to have this lovely girl as a member of your household, please fill out an application below.
Name: Rosie   Age: 10+   Gender: Female

Description:
UPDATE: 06/05 - Rosie has now been officially adopted & now has 3 weim brothers - Hans, Groovy, & Jack in addition to a weim sister named Dreamy. Rosie has been re-named "Reiman" after Groovy*s favorite oncologist Dr Reiman at LSU vet school. Hans was adopted from Weim Rescue of North Texas when he was 12, and I am delighted to say that he will be celebrating "Sweet 16" very soon! Hans has such a strong spirit and is looking forward to sharing a lot with Reiman about the joys of elderly chilling!
***FOSTER UPDATE - Rosie is a typical older lady that likes to be pampered & have lots of attention! She has arthritis & is sometimes a bit unstable on her feet, but will keep up with you no matter where you go. She gets along great with other dogs and I do not think she would give a cat a second thought. She is shy and appears to have been abused as she will cower if she is surprised or if you are too quick around her....but she will sit & enjoy being petted for HOURS! She is really a great dog and will make a good companion for a retired couple or a stay at home mom.**** Rosie is an old girl that was found wandering in the parking lot of a shopping center. She is a sweet natured lady and slightly heartworm positive which with her age we will maintain with heartguard.
Name: Hailey(1)(2)   Age: 2 years   Gender: F

Description:
Update from Forever Home 7/06: Here are some shots of Daisy Mae (formerly Hailey). I adopted her a little over 2 years ago from WRS. She is doing great with her weim sister and weim mix brother. Recently, at a picnic for local rescued weims, she got to meet her mother, Breeze, who also came from WRS and lives in the Nashville area. In addition to training for the Country Music Marathon, Daisy Mae is also currently in training for K9 Search & Rescue. She and her weim sister will be utilized by the Office of Emergency Management to locate live missing persons as well as cadavers. When she is not working hard, she is playing hard. Daisy Mae loves her tennis ball and water frisbee. Thanks to WRS for giving Daisy Mae & me a true happy ending!--------
Name: Sterling   Age: 2 1/2 years   Gender: Male

Description:
UPDATE: Sterling is doing great. He met his new vet yesterday. His ear infection has cleared. He weighs 89 lbs. I was worried that he lost weight, however, the vet said he is fine. He is pretty good at "sit" and "stay". We are still working on "Here". He sleeps in a Jumbo crate in our living room and loves our early morning jog. He does not mind his weekly bath. He stands patiently in the shower while we wash him. We have a college student living with us. Sterling spends most of the day inside with her while we are at work and school. Thank you so much. He is truly a wonderful addition to our family.-------Sterling is a beautiful young boy who needs a family that can spend more time with him. He is good with kids, other dogs, & cats. We are just getting to know this sweet boy & will update you with more info soon.
Sterling is up to date on shots & will be neutered soon.

Name: Gracie**   Age: 10 weeks   Gender: F

Description:
UPDATE From Dad: Everything is going great with Adelaide (formerly Gracie). Solomon, our 8 year old weim, loves having her around. She will complete her Puppy Kindergarten on Thursday and then in a month or so will begin Basic Obedience. She is doing great with her housetraining and some basic commands. She pulls and has zero attention span when walking with a leash but is trying very hard to figure it out. She really just wants to be right next to Solomon when walking. Her next obedience class will be very beneficial to her and us. -Jamey----------------------------------------- UPDATE: Gracie has been adopted to a family in Birmingham and has an older brother. She looks very comfy with her new pal and her new home! -------
Name: Gunnar**   Age: 3 years   Gender: M

Description:
Update from Forever Dad 7/06: I was just telling some friends and family how amazing Gunnar is and how grateful I am to have him as my friend and companion. I thought I should share this happy ending with the rescue that made it possible. I adopted Gunnar about three years ago; at the time I was doing social work and using Gunnar as a doorway of conversation and trust for the disabled children and adults I was working with. Gunnar has been a very fast learner; learning basic commands to advanced commands such as fetching his collar and leash for walks...and looking so cute doing it. I grew up with a family that rescued dogs; never have I been with a more loving and laid back dog. I was a little weary knowing that Weims tend to bark and chew, but Gunnar only barks when we are surprised and howls when I tease him (I love it). Gunnar gets along with all kids; the neighbor girl takes him on walks with her little brother-it is as if he senses that he has to be more gentle with them. Gunnar loves the lake, boating, car rides, chasing cats and squirrels (so exciting) and always being near me, and I like being near him too.-----
Name: Chloe   Age: 1 year   Gender: FEMALE

Description:
Update from Mom - Hey Kim,
I finally got some decent pictures of Chloe. It was hard to get her to sit still long enough. Last weekend we went to the beach and she was scared to go out on the pier, so she was a lot more calm than usual. I gather that she has not been around water much, so she did not really understand the concept of a pier to begin with. Anyway, things are going well. We are working with her trainer... She has learned to shake, stay out of a room (so I can sweep or mop), and go get her kong.
Tara--------------------------------------------------
**UPDATE: 12/6/2003 Chloe was adopted by a wonderful new mom in Tuscaloosa, AL. She has a older Yorkie brother and is doing some obedience training with her new mom.** Chloe is a sweet little girl, about 55 lbs and just full of life. She was picked up at the Memphis Area Shelter by one of our volunteers and will hang out there with her foster brother, Dozer. She knows a few basic commands, but will need some obedience training. She walks well on a leash, but needs practice, and she is doing great with her crate training. Her foster mom says she is very smart and learned not to get on the bed very quickly. She grunts and groans when she beds down and loves her Big Chew Bone. She is getting on well with Dozer, but seems a bit bossy at times. She may have some Alpha traits. Chloe jumps, a lot!! She is full of excitment and joy when her foster mom comes home and is practicing sitting before coming out of her crate! She will need help with this during her training. She will do great as an only child, but with an experienced owner might warm up to a sibling.
Name: Gretchen 2   Age: 2 years   Gender: FEMALE

Description:
**Gretchen was adopted by a wonderful family near Nashville and joins a weimy brother. **: UPDATE: Hi, Gretchen is doing great... you would never know it was the same dog...she is adjusting nicely and Gus is accepting her more and more. She will let us love on her and play with her, but is still a little timid.. She is getting to where she will actually come to us to get treats and lay on the couch next to me. She is very sweet and we are so glad to have her. Thanks Cheryl------Gretchen is a young weim found running with Heidi when they were both hit by a truck. Gretchen was most lucky with just a few scratches for her misfortune. As luck would have it, her brush with fate led her to us and to treatment. She enjoys playing with other large dogs, and watching television. She is still learning how to be an indoor dog, and crate training is the best for this when she is not being supervised. Gretchen is beginning to trust again which is what rescue is all about. Are you the forever home for Gretchen?
Name: Heidi   Age: 2 years   Gender: Female

Description:
***Heidi was adopted by a wonderful family in Bartlett, TN and joins a weim brother Duke and two pekingnese, Missy and AL. UPDATE: We just absolutely love Heidi. She is the most precious loving soul! We have enjoyed having her in our home so much. Our dogsitter is totally in love with her ~ she came by to visit and love on her yesterday ~ wants to know when we will go out of town again.

Thank you for making that happen for us. We are SO crazy about Princess Heidi. She has adjusted so well and is my sweet baby girl.

Becky.........
Heidi, also known as "Houdini Heidi" is a two year old female who needs a home. She is too smart sometimes, thus she needs a home who has experience with very smart large dogs, hopefully Weimaraners. She was found running loose, and it took a while for her to understand that she was allowed inside a home to be loved. She needs lots of socialization, positive obedience training, and patience, and she will be the companion dog everyone dreams about. Are you that family that Heidi dreams about? Fill out an application if you are ready to give Heidi the forever home she needs.
Name: Rock   Age: Adult   Gender: Male

Description:
My name is Debbie Kirkwood and I am the mom to a very special weim named Rock. We adopted Rock from the Tennessee Valley wiem rescue in November. He traveled to his new home in Powder Springs, GA where he met his 2 weim sisters named Sophie and Molly.
Rocks day consists of lazing around the house, walks through the neighborhood with my husband and myself, playing with his two weim sisters, and sleeping in a king size bed between his mom and dad. We have also enrolled Rock in obedience and he is excelling in it. Rock did not have a good life when he started out but now seeing him smile and play like a weim should is the best feeling in the world.I would like to thank Tennessee valley rescue for giving us the opportunity to adopt such a wonderful weim.

Thank You,

Debbie,Andy, Sophie, Molly and Rock.

Name: Slate   Age: Adult   Gender: Male

Description:
Slate is the most wonderful dog... I have had other Weims
but he is the most loyal and loving one. He is everything
a Weimaraner should be... He is a protector and a great
companion. When I was ready for another dog, I considered
a rescue because I did not want to deal with all the challenges
a puppy presents. Slate he was already 7 years old when
I adopted him. He is very well behaved and can be taken
anywhere. Because Slate has had so much trauma in his life,
he has become especially attached to me. It has been fun
teaching him how to play again. It is a real joy to see
him as a happy and playful dog in spite of all he has
been through.

***Slate came to Weimaraner rescue having a huge scar on his
skull from some sort of trauma which also caused his eye
to droop.

Name: Duncan   Age: Adult   Gender: M

Description:
Congratulations to Nancy & her new Therapy dog - DUNCAN!!! What a success story. The family that moved away & just left him to fend for himself, should just see this exceptional boy now. He is touching many lives through his work visiting hospitals, nursing homes & schools. What a true "Happy Ending" story...or should be say "Happy New-beginning"!?!
